I'm guessing thats the version of the DRM encryption on the file. I've never dealt with them since I get all my stuff off p2p anyway, but I'm guessing Microsoft updates it once in a while to break programs like that..

it doesn't even seem like it has a chance to try to find the file. My computer is by no means instant, and it only thinks for one or two seconds, hardly long enough to find my, "my music" folder. Maybe the program just looks there first, but even so i have about 8gig of non-drm music on my computer, so you'd think it'd take longer than that regardless. Oh well, looks like i may be stuck buying another program for 20 bucks. I either pay 20 additional dollars to make my already purchased music useable, or forget the idea altogether, and being that a new original cd is 20 bucks i think i'll get the program.

Might as well give up. The whole encryption scheme is lame. Why can't someone who's already paid, burn it onto a CD for their car? The music just sits on the PC to be played through ****ty speakers or through a ****ty iPod.

There's some hope however, I found this in Wikipedia:

As of May of 2007, music licensed from EMI will be available in an additional format - 256kb AAC files without FairPlay DRM. These songs will be sold for $0.30 more per song than 128k FairPlay protected.

I also heard that music will soon be available from Amazon.com and not encrypted. If that's true, maybe it'll force the competition to do the same.

I remember the first uncrackable DVD encryption was cracked the day it was released.

How? By holding down the CTRL+shift key when inserting the DVD...

DRM is useless in the long run, every time they come up with a new one, it gets cracked pretty quick.. Simple rule: If it can be viewed, it can be copied.
