Don can drive stick!

well sorta. My step dad, lil bro and sis are in CT and my step dad said if I have to move his car move it.. he didnt really instruct me how. Except for like 2 years ago how to drive stick which was not for long. So I moved it .. I didnt stall and I shifted to like 2nd woot and no issues. I moved it once or twice in the last month but stalled it like crazy. I kinda like fartn around with a manual transmission. I feel more in control. I think I want a 4 speed ;)

Mistress 05-28-2007 07:18 PM

Big D- Good for you, sticks can be fun they just require practice, practice and more practice. Learning a stick was a bugger for me but was great fun after i stopped stalling and poping the clutch.

The Swede 05-28-2007 07:25 PM

Cool Don, they're fun.

Just don't drive a manny tranny with a hot cup o' coffee between your legs.

but its so tempting

ForcedInduction 05-28-2007 09:23 PM

Does this mean you are ready to join the OM617 4-speed warning triangle club?

TheDon 05-28-2007 09:34 PM

if I could ever find a 4 speed and all the stuff to do it. Or I could actually get a VW TDI now since most of them are 5 speeds... nah

Kuan 05-28-2007 09:47 PM

Cool! You're ready to try a '67 VW bus. :D

Better yet, three on a tree. :)

Now those are fun. I drove an old Ford van with that a few times.

PaulC 05-28-2007 09:56 PM

I taught myself to drive a 4-speed. It only cost me one fender.

raymr 05-28-2007 10:38 PM

My kids are learning from the start on a 5-speed. Its tough, but I think they will be better drivers.

I dont have 8k for a beetle.. Id rather roll a fatchick (post 68)... Im either going to save up and do the 4 speed swap in my car.. or get a vw of the sorts.. Im leaning towards the 4 speed.. I think it would be cool

Towel Rail 05-30-2007 01:38 AM

Splits are getting up there. My favorites are from the 40HP era (hence my handle on most car forums)...

TheDon 05-30-2007 01:46 AM

I figured your name.. Towel rail had to do something with the 67 t1 bumper... us market only.. one year deall.. .Id like a 67..

I was at some used car dealership.. they had a decent beetle with 67 bumpers.. they were like its a 67.. so it costs 4k.. I was like.. Ill give you 2k because its a 69 with 67 bumpers and rust on the decklid.. as well as the wrong decklid... I never bought it

are you a member on Thesamba.com?

Yep! I'll try not to blabber too much about VWs here, but much of what I've learned about cars has come from wrenching on mine. Gave me a good appreciation for German engineering. :)

Just install a cup holder somewhere and have a 1/4 " flex pipe run over to where your mouth is ... :pleased:

Unless you're frequently driving on Southern CA freeways. You will develop a 'clutch-foot' with an unproprtionally large calf on your left leg ... :(

iwrock 05-30-2007 03:31 AM

Don, I found this....

"Very interesting combination of two different car makes. Body is from VW Beetle but front looks like MB."

Interesting to say the least (or most). Benz grille & headlights, Testarosa kit side treatment and a Continental kit. What the hell was this guy on?

TheDon 05-30-2007 10:46 AM

only in florida

AustinsCE 05-30-2007 01:21 PM

I think that guys had it on Ebay for like a year. Someone posted that a long time ago.

Dee8go 05-30-2007 01:54 PM

Drive a "stick?" Is like some kind of Harry Potter thing? Like riding a broomstick?

Self gratification?

Nate 05-31-2007 02:48 AM

hahahahaha looser. Stickshifts RULE!!!

Except I got jabbed with the shifter in the scort when we decided that the frount seats were too small.... That's also the night the dome light got pwned by my ex's cloggs (ok fine, heals... but seriously heavy and LOUD)

I just put a new clutch in the scort... it's all good except now I gotta put it back together again :D
