What can a Reasonably Sane Person do Near Columbus , OH?

Got the travel bug again, and I'm cheap and adventurous.

There's a new startup airline a la Ryanair here in the good ole US of A and my family of 3 just booked tickets on it from near Daytona, FL to Columbus, OH for $108 , not each, total for all 3 sets r/t. tax tag and title.

www.skybus.com

I'm thinking I will take that long delayed trip to visit my alma mater, Indiana University in Bloomington, IN (we have about 6 days) but I am open to other suggestions in the area.

Any ideas, weird or otherwise?

Rick

The AMA motorcycle museum is right outside columbus, if you are into machines at all there is a LOT of neat stuff there (its a must for any motorcycle rider...)

Wow.. they are cheap.. if I lived near one of the cities, I'd book a $20 round trip just to fly on an airplane

I'm not really into bikes. What are some things to do in Cincy?

Make sure the hotel you stay in offers movies on-demand.

Pretty strange - Allow time to move your own baggage between flights.
and
Current Specials
10 seats for $10* each – on every flight! That’s right, each and every Skybus flight has a minimum of ten seats available for just ten dollars. It’s for real – but these seats go quickly, so be sure to book early and book often!

I've lived in Columbus most of my life and can tell you there are lots of things for the family to do. What are you into? The family will love a place called COSI.....center of science and industry. We have a new indoor waterpark that's loads of fun called Fort Rapids. Also, an outdoor waterpark at the Columbus Zoo. I'll be more than happy to help you out and point you in the right direction!!!

hdexpert-

Don't want to throw cold water on your ideas, but we live in Central Florida, not many miles from all the Disney et al type attractions. We are trying to get AWAY from that.....possibly the Zoo itself...I think I have heard it is one of the best in the country, right?

tx- yup we got the $10 seats- taxes run it up a bit. Evidently skybus doesn't have transfers doped out yet- you have to schlep your own bags if you want to transfer in Columbus.

I really hope their business model works out here . It does work very well in Europe. We have taken flights on Ryanair, Easyjet and Skyeurope , some for as little as a euro cent (well, we had to pay the taxes). It is definitely cattle car, no-frills, no service at best ( or surly service), but so far all our European experiences were safe, reasonably on time and with new equipment.

How close is that to Dayton? The USAF museum is there at Wright-Patterson AFB. It is an amazing collection if you're into planes.

Close enough to go there. I have been there and you are (W)right, 'tis awesome. I would go in a heartbeat, but I'm not sure yet if I can drag the non-techie wife and 7 yr old daughter.

Gotcha, no water type stuff. The zoo is very nice, in the top ten as you said. We have a major league soccer stadium where our local team plays. There are certain districs of Columbus that are pretty cool.....German Villiage, the brewery district, the short north, Clintonville, the arena district........100's of excellent places to eat. Your daughter would love to go to Dave and Busters or Game Works.......both arcade type places. We also have two huge mall areas.......Easton is indoor/outdoor and Polaris is indoor only.....both are huge and quite nice. Let me know if I can help with anything specific.
