Why can't lawmakers just follow the law?

When I hear McCain, Bush et al pushing this amnesty bill saying that no one else has a better solution, I get so angry...
How can they so easily fail to keep their oath to defend the Constitution? Protecting the borders is one of the few real roles of government, yet they do not even try to enforce current immigration laws. They because they allow rampant illegals into the country they must "fix" it by saying its OK.
I don't get it at all.
They will not assimilate--their first act is to break the law to get here.
The illegals are now given priority over all those who have been seeking legal immigration--thats sends a good message?!

What if we followed the same "logic" and stopped paying taxes? If say 20 millions of us stopped paying our taxes we would, according to the "logic" in vogue, be too large a number to proscecute. Therefore we would be granted amnesty. I bet the men with guns ( revenuers) would never permit such an action.
Bush should be impeached for his failure to abide by his Constitutional oath!

I'm just a bill on Capital Hill: Which party has the majority in the Senate?

"Why can't lawmakers just follow the law?"

'Cause they're politicians.

Bush is just being the same guy he's always been -- a "my way or the highway" guy with no respect for his office, his country or its constituency. "The decider" -- there's his legacy, right there. McCain has changed, or at least he appears to have changed, and none for the better. The immigration bill seems to offend everyone, common sense would dictate that a fresh perspective is called for...

Obviously a ready willing and able Democratic congress does not care about the will of the people. The prez is just a talking head, if the Dem's wanted this dead it would be. This is nothing but pandering to millions of votes in '08 and probably the only way a repub can win anything in the next few election cycles.

You guys would sound much more intelligent if you quit using the it Bush BS.

Post *** F*rting & P*ssing in the wind...for now... ***

The Dems will let the bill fester 'til it gets close to election time...

Then they'll claim "...it had to be passed in its original form..." BS to allow wiggle room on their side...

The legislation is BS. Ask your Demmy Rep. to deep-6 it, or come up with something better, in both the House and the Senate...

If Bush vetos it, then wait for the veto-over-ride, if anyone has the guts...

Until something comes out of the Senate and House, it's all hot air and posturing - sound bites ad nauseum.

That's right -- there all a bunch of *******s who put politics and partisanship above their responsibilities to their country and the electorate. The Dems were given control of Capital Hill to execute a single task, and they gave everyone who voted them in a collective 'up yours' several days ago. I don't understand what you are referring to as pandering though, unless you mean slamming this pink elephant of a bill. Everybody hates the damned thing, and Bush is wearing it like a leotard.

You call him a talking head, but he is my president, your president, Hillary Clinton's president, John Kerry's president -- everyone's president -- and he has a responsibility to everyone in this country above and beyond all others. IMO, that puts him in a very unique position that he doesn't seem to understand or care about. I never got the impression that Bill Clinton or Bush 41 or Ronald Reagan was telling half the country to F off, I do get that sense from Bush 43.

I STILL say what we need is a good old fashioned dictatorship for a few years. Clean out the parties, BOTH of them. Build a Gulag up in Alaska somewhere.
Then start with a clean slate. Rename the parties. How about the "Us" and the "Them" parties? We'll pick the agendas, we'll pick the candidates. No campaign funds. Each gets $500 and vouchers at McDonalds. Each gets 5 minutes a day on PBS.
This time, I'm not just being a smarta$$! I'm serious. I'm sick of both sides!

Hey Rick! We just need to elect a President that both parties loathe, and I know just the guy -- my idealogical and political doppelganger -- Ron Paul.

He won both GOP debates according to viewer polls, is being blackballed by the corporate media (which is why you never heard of him), and has incited such hatred from the neocons and evangelicals, that the head of the Michigan GOP actually tried to have him banned from future debates. As the most conservative member of Congress (9-term R -- Texas), Dems have no use for him either. He's perfect!
