HIGH gas prices WELOME!
I don't know if I am a nut or not but I am actually welcoming high gas prices and want them to go higher.
Here is the reasoning for this: We American need to get off our high horses and live like the rest of the world. We need to stop driving out gas guzzlers and suvs and actually need to decrease the numbers of cars owned by a single family. I believe each family should have only one car and everybody should have their 125CC motorcycles or bicycles that they should use to commute to work and back. A small motorcycle if you live far and a bicycle if you only live within a few miles of work. We are the most wasteful nation and we OURSELVES must change. It is not the fault of the government not is it the fault of the oil companies. Let's face it, if I had something that people would be buying at any cost, you better believe I will be raking in the profits and probably a lot more than I deserve. If people start driving little 125cc moped, motorbikes, I think it would definitely not only drive the price down, but will also help the environment as well as decreasing our dependence on foreign oil. We are a very comfortable nation. Let's live like the rest of the world for a change and do our part in saving the environment. If it is 20 degrees below, then wear 2 coats and gloves before getting on the moped in the winter to go to work. I am sure this will even play a large role in getting us LAZY FAT Americans into better health. I'm going to go do my part and try to buy one of those Chinese motorbikes that are out in the market. What do you guys think? |

I notice that you've laid out a few remedies including 125cc motorcycles, etc. Is this advice only for others to follow? Set the standard by getting out of that fat Mercedes and into a nice Honda Fit. Until then, show empathy for those cats that you want to prop on mopeds in the dead of winter by leaving your car windows rolled down from November through April.

And what of those of us who do only have one vehicle, but since we do only have one, it needs to be able to meet all of our needs at once?
Must be able to seat 4 adults if needed (usually only 2). Transport 2 midsize (50-70lbs) dogs. Haul enough cargo to make single trips to either the grocery store or to supply two people and two dogs for a week at a time. Have the ability to traverse rough terrain. Maintain acceptable highway performance to travel the roads. Have the ability to carry large cargo externally. When needed provide shelter. What sort of vehicle meets those needs? I'll give you a hint, it starts with a "S" and ends with a "V". Mind you, we do often walk about town, in a town that is not designed for it. Most folks would consider walking two miles one way to go out for dinner to be crazy, we enjoy it (ok, once the temps get over 100 it loses something, but hey...). But I also drive my vehicle less than two miles to work each day since I often need carrying capacity that my arms, or even a bike do not offer. I'd love it if my vehicle got better mileage, but many of the laws of physics dictate otherwise. So what do you propose? Is my lifestyle to be legislated out of existence? Should I buy another vehicle to accomodate some of my various needs? Please do explain... MV Last edited by BAVBMW; 06-05-2007 at 01:33 PM. |

Heavy manufacturing in China is still largely powered by coal-burning power plants that generate incredible amounts of pollutants and are years from ever seeing any form of pollution regulation, much less a scrubber or bag house. In most of China, you can chew the air. If you are so socially motivated, does it make sense to buy a product that is potentially so invironmentally incorrect?

All the trouble can be fixed with Diesel and manual trans. The problem is that most Americans are, simply stated, too gosh-darn-f'ing-stupid to understand it.
We have a society of people who can't talk on their cell phone and drive at the same time... they simply lack the coordination and/or skill... Stupid people pay too much for things. Enough said. |

Yes, I could already picture the highways full of Mopeds, and 125cc Motor cycles. Especially the soccer moms, with five kids on the back, and the people who have to commute 50 to 100 miles every day to work. Not to mention how high the fatality rates on the highways would go up. We'd be playing games in our tractor trailers, to see who could hit the most, within a mile distance..
Be realistic man. In China, and almost all of Asia, as well as much of Europe, where those things are very popular. People do not commute to work, because most of them live within the tight confines of the city, where a car, would be more of a hindernece, than help. There just aren't a lot of people who live, and work very closely here. Things are very spread out, and a lot of people cross town county, and even state lines, just to go to work and back each day. My uncle is a prime example. Lives in Norwich, Ct. and works in Wallingford, Ct. Thats a 60 mile drive, each direction, every day of the week. Try that on a 125cc motorbike, or even a 1500 cc, full size motorcycle, especially in winter. There are a lot of people who drive a lot further than that each day still. I think I've made my point..

wear 2 coats in -20 degree weather??
Funny how you conveniently left your location out of your profile. You obviously aren't married with kids either. The next time you have an idea try thinking about it a little first. Danny

Everybody who believes we should pay higher prices should do so. If prices drop then the people who wish for higher prices should cut a monthly check to the government for the difference between what they actually pay and what they think they should pay.
Heck, that's a great solution for people who believe that we are undertaxed! Brilliant! Tonight I will buy myself a gin & tonic in celebration. B |

I think the government should revoke all licenses and titles for all vehicles (including yours - you don't need a luxury car). Then, they should get a panel of experts and assistant experts to decide who gets what car based on what need they have. If you live close to where you work, you get a moped. If you live far from where you work, you get a GM Prizm (it's good to keep these things USA made, right?). If you have a family, you can apply using form DA-7745PS, and if you get the required signatures, and the panel approves, you get a minivan. Process takes about 6mos, but, hey, you want a minivan or not?
"High gas prices welcome?" Are you retarded? Why not say crap like - "Ding Dongs should be $25 a half-dozen", or "All hamburgers at fast food places have to cost $15 minimum", or "We need a tax rate higher than 50%". I'll tell you what - you move to an Eastern Bloc country and get told by others what you can and cannot do. In America, we have freedom to do as we please; so you do what you please, and I'll do what I please. Done.
