Chips are everwhere - Everyware - Ubiquitous Computing - for you own good, say them

"You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/07/21/AR2007072100637.html

Links to a recent news blurb from The AP.

Quote:
Microchips are now fixed to car windshields as toll-paying devices, on "contactless" payment cards (Chase's "Blink," or MasterCard's "PayPass"). They're embedded in Michelin tires, library books, passports, work uniforms, luggage, and, unbeknownst to many consumers, on a host of individual items, from Hewlett Packard printers to Sanyo TVs, at Wal-Mart and Best Buy.

Once again, this post is intended to give you fuel for google searches. If you consider yourself well informed and are not familiar with this topic, do it. The network includes cameras, audio recording, cel phones, gps, etc. Think about it. Cameras are tied to systems that can identify your face when you walk in a door.

Well - We have 2 cars with Toll-Tags (chips). We have 6 Emus with chips. 4 Dogs with chips. 5 of our horses have chips.

But personally - We prefer fish and chips. Yorkshire F&C on Pecos St. in Denver has the best this side of the pond.

Actually - Some good reading. We’ve used them for years in the animals. Had no real idea of all the other applications. Interesting. Thanks.

Think of the bright side, shoplifting will be eliminated. You'll be able to go into a store, pick up merchandise and leave. Once you pass the scanners, the items will be identified and your purchase deducted from your account automatically.

When the school system decides that kids need RFID tags in them, I'll resist.

I read somewhere that the FBI is working on "shoplift to order" rings. Small expensive items are sold on eBay, etc and shoplifted to fill the orders.

"In store warranty" may be out also. People have been buying a new item to replace a broken item and returning the broken one for a refund.

I have been meaning to chip my dog. Maybe next week. We are about five miles from our neighbors so he doesn't tend to wander these days anyway.
