Mahindra to bring diesel to US

Interesting... just saw in R&T that Indian manufacturer Mahindra plans to bring 2 & 4-door pickups and an SUV in '08 or '09. They use a 4 cyl common rail diesel engine and 6 speed automatic, and start around $20k. R&T reports ratings as high as 39mpg. Interesting!

I wonder if they could meet the stringent standards set by our country as far as pollution is concerned. India is one of the most polluted and dirtiest countries around. Their media just sugarcoats everything. The country is an environmental hazard. I seriously doubt it will be their own invention though.

By the time the EPA, DOT and NHTSA are done with them they'll start around $30K and get 25 MPG, if we can get them at all.

I'm still holding out hope for a turbo diesel Wrangler Unlimited.

Sooner or later the tide will turn and the stupid people of the USA will learn that Diesel is the way to go... I'm very hopeful. :D

don`t you just love the government? vehicle starts out getting great
milage, and by the time the DOT, EPA, NHSTA choke it down, the
milage drops. then the govt. complains the manufactures aren`t
doing enough to increase the MPG estimates.:furious2:

Their tractors have been over here for a very long time.

I like it... except for the trans. :)

Yeah, when I looked 'em up on the intraweb thingy I found that they had a solid foothold on the tractor market. They also made Jeeps under license for quite a while, presumably in the same way that Bajaj made Indian versions of the Vespa.

I second that

A friend has a Mahindra tractor which I borrowed. It's a very modern easy to use machine. And the front loader has a quick disconnect that accepts Skid Steer attachments, very nice.

importing, we keep importing.

Unfortunately the UAW has priced itself out of American jobs.

It is a good light-duty tractor. Parts around here take a little too much time to get so the commercial guys stay away from them.

Isn't Doylestown in Bucks, Co. PA? My mother's best friend lived there for years and her husband commuted the two hours or whatever to Fifth Avenue every morning. They are retired now on the Eastern Shore.

I was born in Doylestown, and now reside about 5mi out of town.
Many area residents commute to NYC. My next door neighbors lived in an apartment in the city and came out here for weekends.
I guess parts could be an issue. I snapped off the bucket hydraulic valve handle, so I went to the local Kubota dealer 'cause they use the same valve. They didn't want to talk to me. So I drove the 15 mi up to the Mahindra dealer. He went out into the yard and took a handle from a machine in stock.
