Our national nightmare continues . . .

Putin is looking like James Bond these days compared to Bush's Howdy Doody. Bush, with his worn out smirky snicker says the Cold War is over. Is that why we're pursuing global hegemony like there's no tomorrow? Wasn't that a lot of the root of the Cold War? The mutual pursuit of hegemony? Russia is supposed to blandly trust that our courting every country that surrounds them and bribing them to station SDI type missiles on their soil does not render their offensive/defensive capability sterile?

Would we quietly put up with it if the shoe was reversed?!

Much is made, and regularly, of how the founders crafted our constitution so wisely and carefully that every contingency was anticipated -- that no fine tuning is needed or will be tolerated.

Clearly they left out the 'vote of no confidence' removal of a bumbling fool option available to the Brits, something we could sure use right now.

Not sure they anticipated the lowest common denominator two party system that has descended upon us either.

Somehow, someway, we need to implement the 'vote of no confidence' measure and get preference voting/instant run-off voting up and running. The ship of state lurches towards the rocks with Alfred E. Neuman at the helm.

Boy did you hit the nail on the head... I laugh at all the people that think the Republican party is so great because of the myth that the "cold war ended" the cold "battle" ended -- but the Russians are still hard at work -- only now they don't have to worry about us!

As they continue to align themselves with China -- they will control us even more -- economically, and then... well... and then worse -- right here.

But hey, we can handle it!!! We're the super-power of the world. Yeah right. We can't even control Iraq. Good Luck.

If I understand the system to be placed by the US in Czech Rep and Poland - it is defensive. Why are the Russians threatened by it? We have specifically asked them to be a part of it - to be defended by it.

I do agree that the cold war isn't over, but that's because the enemy isn't dead. We didn't kill them. They just changed names.

This quote "Somehow, someway, we need to implement the 'vote of no confidence' measure and get preference voting/instant run-off voting up and running. The ship of state lurches towards the rocks with Alfred E. Neuman at the helm." scares the hell out of me. Such measures would insure a decent into political chaos. Venezuela style.

Think Cuban missile crisis. Those missiles were defensive also.

That is right on the money.

I cringed yesterday when I heard him smirking about the Cold War being over. I hope we all survive the remaining 593 days W has left in office.

One of the left-wing websites that I like to visit had a piece yesterday that asked: What if Iraq really wasn't W's biggest mistake?

I don't know nothing about missile shields, so I have no idea whether W is on the right side of this issue. After all, even a blind pig finds an acorn now and then. W and his people have been wrong almost 100% of the time, so why should we expect him to be right about this?

I don't see why Putin is worried. What would the US do with Russia anyway? Certainly not invade it; no nukes either, as this is impractical. We don't have what it takes to take over Russia (we can hardly keep our own country together).
I suspect there is some other underlying reason that Putin is putting up a fuss. He might think he is doing Russia good...but he isn't.

Then MOVE THE HECK OUT!!!! Goodbye, see ya, have a good life in the outland. This country is not worthy of your greatness. Save yourself while you can. Leave us all to flounder in the swelling cesspool. Oh, sorry. No conviction? Seems the crappy life here is too good to leave? Typical.

At the rate Bush is alienating the US in world and domestic affairs, I also am worried. Never have I seen a President who has done more damage to US world image than GWB. 593 day's left, God help us.
