Adventures in Ebayland

So we're about 10 hours from the conclusion of our auction (selling my wife's inherited and unused Porsche).

As of this moment, about 3000 people have visited the auction in the past week, about 100 people watching, and one (1) !!!! bid (opening bid - not meeting the reserve).

And I'm checking the bidding about every 2 minutes, since I have nothing better to do with my time.

Fortunately, I have a Little League game to coach tonight so at least I'll have something productive to do today. Hopefully we'll go into extra innings and maybe get a nice rain delay....

How did we waste our time in the days before Ebay?

No link.

You should have offered it here first.

I wouldn't know.... Only put a couple of 100 miles on it. I enjoyed those.

An inherited car isn't a unmixed good thing. Came from my wife's only sibling, so it wasn't something she'd want to go out for a "fun" drive in.

Should have sold it years ago, but sometimes it's hard to deal with stuff that gets inherited.

Isn't our "Cars for Sale" only for MBs?

TheDon 06-06-2007 02:23 PM

we can make exceptions I bet.. it is German

But I doubt anyone would really bite

Why not see if you can get it to roll on one of those auctions thats always on TV and such (not naming names)

Well, it is in MY color (red).

Alas, there is no room in my garage for a nice beast like your Porsche.

I thought you were saving that spot for the SL?

I could try to squeeze in the Porsche.

I swear, I am such a show-off, but I love red cars.

If I could I would have a collection of red cars, all from different makes.

Porsche, Benz, Ferrari, Chevy (Corvette)....you get the idea. :D

And a woman with red lipstick :lips: in a little red dress...sigh!!!

There is a psychological strategy to setting the reserve and starting prices. If you don't sell it this time around, I'd suggest you start it at $1.00 and set your reserve for what you want. This will invoke a bidding frenzy and get people thinking about it and checking back often. Also I'd highly suggest putting in the VIN. People shy away from stuff like that. Also, always end your auction in the evening. That way the buyers are good and drunk!:D

Buy the Porsche, I'll throw in my SLC.

It's blue, but that can be changed (I have a roller.)

Guilty - I'm one of the watchers. I was hoping it would meet your expectations. Shame - I love that car. I'm no potential buyer, though, I got too many cars as it is. I wanted to see what it'd sell at.

1) I like the $1 idea.

2) VIN is just under the Ebay description box where I begin my narrative. Ebay VIN doesn't accept Euro VIN numbers.

3) Ends at 11:00 PM east coast. I guess it doesn't give left coasters time to get drunk enough. Next time I'll use more foresight.
