Windows VISTA question

Wifey's computer shut down overnight, and now it wants her password.

It refuses to accept the only password we have ever used on that computer.

What can we do?

Hatterasguy 06-13-2007 08:27 PM

This will do it.

Can you go into safe mode?

You can always format the HD but of course she'll lose her data.

There are password crackers you can use but they aren't terribly user friendly.

Dumb question: are you sure the caps lock is off when entering the p/w.

CAPS LOCK was the first thing I checked.
Thanks

If you have multiple accounts on the puter log in with one of those and change the password.

Did she have a password to begin with?

You may have to buy cracking software or find someone who has it.

How to reset Windows Vista (or 2000/XP) password with a
special Linux distro when you are locked out your own system;
this video describes how to do it on a Mac but it will work on any pc.

MS Fowler 06-14-2007 10:37 PM

Thanks for the replies. ( except for the .50 caliber one)
Before I could download the files and give it a try, the wife called the computer manufacturer and we got enough assistance over the phone to allow me to reset the password.\Thanks again for the suggestions.
