steam cleaners?

I want to get one of these so that cleaning engine bays will be much quicker, as well as having the ability to get stains out of carpet etc. Problem is, i don't want to spend 1500 on one, and am only willing to spend up to around 200. Does anyone have any clue about these things? I have no idea what pressure, temp etc to get, like i said its main purpose will be cleaning engine bays with occasional use on the interior(perhaps more than occasional if it works really well). Thanks,
Ryan

The steam cleaner used for engine bays is not the same or suitable for cleaning carpets and the steam cleaner for carpets is worthless for engines.
If you need to clean carpets, rent a carpet steam cleaner.
The steam cleaner for engines is a dawn of the industrial revolution contraption and can do more damage to your car and person than you can imagine, quickly too.
I have a Kaercher pressure washer. It's a low power-1300psi-washer that works great for cleaning just about anything outdoors. It is not hot so it will only blast off loose stuff. I bought it at Lowe's or HD for about $170.
If you need to clean off grease and oil, go to a construction company or heavy equipment contractor and ask if you can pay them to clean your car. Otherwise, spray it down with cleaning solvent such as Gunk and take it to the coin operated DIY car wash. You don't want that grease and dirt near your house.

Look in the yellow pages. I just had my car's engine and underside steam cleaned. $30 IIRC. I gave him an extra $5 to back the car up the ramps and do the rear diff area since I needed to have the axles replaced. I also had the car steam cleaned about a year ago before I replaced the injectors. I'm pretty sure he has equipment installed to keep the oil and grease out of the city sewage. Just a local business man and does a great job.
