Morbid obesity and recliners - don't buy a recliner and it will limit your obesity

This is another google suggestion. Read about breathing problems and airway management of the morbidly obese. To get above some level of obesity usually involves a recliner to prevent breathing problems.

Sleep apnea, snoring, etc are some of natures ways to tell you to lose weight.

When you reach a certain weight your internal organs will press up against your diaphragm when you lie on your back and prevent normal breathing. I have read reports that it has lead to death.

Aha! I do start to snore when I gain about 10 lbs. When I lose it the snoring stops. Trouble is, you don't know it until someone tells you.

The g/f says I don't snore...
OTOH..

I heard an interesting eating tip recently to cut down on junk food.
Simple rule: Don't eat standing up.

Think of what you eat standing up and realize most of it isn't all that healthy.
Snacks, most finger foods, fatty & salty stuff from the party trays, etc.

I don't have enough room in my "homette" for a recliner...so I lay in bed and watch T.V. as for being over weight, I have found not having junk food available in the house helps....cuts down on the p.m. snacking.

Interesting tip.
I can see that.
Thanks.

Add to that: “Don’t eat in your car.” and between the two, you could really knock out a good chunk of the cr@p food.

Big Medicine

I was cruisin' the channels the other day and there was a show called "Big Medicine", probably on Discovery or Learning Channel. All about medical problems with really large people and those that have lost weight. One guy was over 800 #.

Watching that will keep you out of the recliner.... whew..

Chuck - who is going for a walk tonight.

It's even simpler than that:

DON'T PUT YOUR HAND NEAR YOUR MOUTH!

I have said this same thing before. I called it hand to mouth disease.

I saw a recliner today that looked big enough to park a pickup truck under it. I think it had to have intentionally been built for very, very large people.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=recliner+bariatric

A quick google search confirms this. One of the recliners advertises a 700 pound lift capacity.

If you are reading this and might need a chair like this one day, stop eating processed food now. If you can't peel it, shuck it, snap it, skin it, scale it, or pluck it, don't eat it. Not complete but you get the idea. Don't eat industrial products.

Nutritional information is produced to make the food companies rich, not to make you healthy.

Ok, as long as your comfy chair isn't 28 inches wide and needs to be.

Don't outgrow any chairs and we are ok.

Damn. Now what am I going to do with this drum of floor wax?

The problem is that preservatives make processed foods more accessible to the unmotivated than fresh foods can be. Go to the average convenient store and you'll find 87 different varieties of processed snacks that have a six-month shelf life, but just three bananas that have been there since 1966 and look it.

I recently looked at some oranges in a school cafeteria and they were all very light, dried-out. I looked again about a week later and it looked like the same oranges were still in the same bin. The other alternatives were things like pop-tarts.

Lack of motivation is one problem, profit motive is another, and misinformation feeds both.
