Day hikes in Vermont

The wife's going on a business trip to Burlington, Vermont in August and I am going to tag along. I will have a few days to kill and would like to see some mountains, the more remote the better. Can anyone recommend some mountain hikes that can be done in less than 8 hours, including drive time from Burlington?

Any other recommendations for things to do in Vermont would also be appreciated. We will be in southern Vermont for a few days and around Burlington for a few.

If you're anywhere's near the Northeast Kingdom you could use one of my outbuildings,no electric though, and composting "earth closets"that have been doing duty for 150 years or more

Head over to Stowe. It's about 35 miles away. I was in Shaw's General Store earlier this week (on the main street aka as Rt100) and they had a very nice map that covered 30 day hikes in the immediate area. The map was a couple of bux.

Brattleboro is well known for tolerating nudity ..... You may want to hang out there.

I won't be there long enough to need an outbuilding, but thank you for the gracious offer. Those earth closets get much use during the winter? I bet that will wait you up in the morning.
