I want a CL600

I want a CL600. Not the new one, but the older one. They look sooooo good, and they are fast. Bi-turbo 12.

I want this one.

Ok, discuss. Good, bad, ugly.

Be prepare to keep it, as very few people will dare to touch a used V12 Mercedes.

No probs with mine so far. Then again, I bought an old diesel as insurance. I'll end up putting 2-3K miles/year on the 600.

Goto to W220 section at MBworld.org. Tons of W220 info. Lots of complaints of course, especially about the suspension. I haven't read of any motor or trans issues with the S600 on Merc sites... However google "2003 Mercedes S600 problems" and you'll find some good reading material.

People rarely post about automobile success stories. It's human nature to whine and complain. Something to keep in mind.

Sure true around here, isn't it?

Who starts a thread describing why he loves his dependable car? Who would read it?

I have a bi-turbo CL600. You will spend some serious money on maintenance/repairs. The ABC suspension is awsome when it works but is as reliable as the electronics in an early 80's Jaguar. The engine produces more torque that most diesel big rigs. Calling the car heavy is an understatement but the ABC does allow it to handle very well....that is, when the ABC is working.

If you go this route, GET AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I didn't and I've spent around $10,000 on maintenance/repairs in the last 12 mths. Don't buy the CL if you think it will be as reliable as a C or E class.

With all that said, I really love my Rennteched 215 CL600. It's fast as heck and handles extremely well for such a heavy car. There is never even a hint of body roll, in the twisties, with ABC set to sport. The car is vault like solid and very quiet on the HWY.

They are great GT cars, I love the way they look.

Look at it this way, they a cheaper to own then a Ferrari 456, or a Bentley GT, so the CL600 is a bargain!

Why not?

What's the warranty on an '03 MB? 4/50?

Yep, 4/50.

Most 2003's wty's are either done, or darn near close. Unless it's Starmarked (or whatever they call it now).

My Renntech CL600 produces close to 800 lb-ft of torque and 655 hp. Renntech can get around 1000 lb-ft out of the bi-turbo V12's but limit them below that level ue to tranny limits.

From the Peterbuilt website:

Quote:
Proprietary PACCAR Power

The Model 330 is powered by the PACCAR PX-6 engine which has one of the industry’s best power-to-weight ratios. This six-cylinder, 6.7 liter engine is available with power ratings from 200 horsepower at 520 lb-ft of torque through 325 horsepower with 750 lb-ft of torque. The PX-6 uses a state-of-the-art common rail fuel injection system that provides optimum engine performance and economy under all operating conditions. Additionally, the PX-6 is a reliable, low-maintenance engine for reduced cost of ownership and maximum uptime.
Obviously, a modified CL600 engine is not going to have nearly as much torque as the huge 13 liter and up diesel's but it does have as much torque and hp as many over the road diesel truck engines.
