Any Euchre players?

I was wondering if there are any Euchre players here, and if there are a bunch, maybe we can have a Euchre night(s) on yahoo.

Euchre (You-kir), is a card game for four. It is played with 9,10,J,Q,K,A.
Usually you follow suit (what was lead), if you cannot, you either discard another suit, or lay a trump card.
The power of the trump, is in the usual order, (A,K,Q, etc) with the exception of the Jacks (Bauers). In this case, the Bauer of the suit that was called is the highest, then the Bauer of the same color, and then the rest of the remaining suit.
Your object is to take 3 tricks within a hand (by having the highest value card). You have a partner sitting opposite of you to help you.
If you call suit, but cannot get 3 tricks, you are "set" (aka "Euchred")
3 or 4 tricks = 1 point
5 (all) tricks = 2 points
setting = 2 points
Loner = 1 or 4 depending on amt. of tricks

I have not heard of that game in years.

When I was a kid, (in the 50's) the old timers used to play euchre and cribbage at all the family gatherings. I never got into it though.

I have found that it seems to be mainly a midwestern game. It is fun. Kinda' a cross between SPADES and HEARTS.

It also says that it was popular among German immigrants. That explains my family's old timers fondness for it.

Euchre?

My paternal grandfather invented it!

At least that is what my uncle Norm used to say. Uncle Norm married into the Walgamuth family. He pretended to not be very good at Euchre but I remember well him passing on the Right bower when he had a loaded hand because he knew my Uncle Orlow couldn't turn down a right even if he had nothing to go with it, and proceeded to uchre my other uncle. Uncle Norm also pretended to not know how to fix anything either but he could.

When in college I might well have played a hundred games of Euchre in a weekend. One summer when I worked a union job in the Kroger warehouse we used to play four or five games in a fifteen minute break. That is some pretty fast Euchre.

Yeah, it is a midwest game.

It is fairly simple to learn but has a lot of subtilities that take years to learn.

I wondered when Walgaworth was going to chime in! When my friends from Indiana are in town they are obsessed with the game and get down right serious about it. Almost as obsessed as the cajuns are with bourre, and moreso than the East coasters are with bridge.

Larry, are you from Ohio or something. I didn't know that game existed in Florida. I love to play, and used to win a lot of tournaments, and still play a few times a month.

I was raised playing bid Euchre a lot at with my mom's parents. Grandma was a great lady, but when it came time for her to play cards no one was family....she was old for blood.

Actually, I first saw it being played when I was a kid, living in Germany. Later, when I lived in Michigan, I saw it being played, and eventually learned it while attending college in da U.P., where we had Euchre tournaments on occasion.
As far as Floridians.....I bet if I went to an old folks home, I'd fine a bunch of geezers who know/knew how to play.
