Childhood Food Nightmares.....

We all have them. What was thw worst thing your parents made you eat growing up, touting some sort of vitamin benefit? Mine was calves liver- yuck my parents made us eat it every two weeks spouting off something about iron intake. And no we didn't have it with a glass of Chianti either.

At the time, haggis that my grandmother used to make. But I've actually acquired the taste for it now. I wish I could try her's again (she passed away when I was 10) since it was probably a lot better than I thought it was then.

Yeah Liver was on my list and an assortment of ethnic cabbage dishes - oddly all of which I like and sometime crave now.

I guess mine were pretty indulgent. I don't remember having to eat anything that disagreeable when I was growing up. My mother used to always cook one meal for my dad. He only liked about three different things. Then she would select something from a larger list of meals for the rest of us. Sounds pretty crazy to say it now, but I never thought much about it at the time.

My wife's grandmother is German/Polish and makes outstanding golabki. Which I'm sure I would have hated as a kid but can't get enough of now.

Aloe juice. I still can't stand the sight of aloe plants. It was like drinking a glass of snot.

Is it the odd, can-shaped form that it comes in or the taste?

I never heard of drinking that stuff. I thought you were just supposed to rub it on your skin or something.

You can buy it in bottles at health & natural food stores. It's supposed to be beneficial for your plumbing.

I always thought that eating the organs that filter out waste products in the body should be considered non-edible, personally.
