Mistress--has the State lost its humanity for what it is doing to this woman, or has this woman lost hers?

This situation is different, but I will share some personal experience with panhandlers. I have pulled many hours in a charity soup kitchen while serving on its board for several years. I do not inherently fear the homeless and am not unsympathetic to some of their plights. However, once I had kids, this attitude somewhat changed from a visceral reaction standpoint. Anytime a panhandler approaches me when I am alone, I size up the situation and either tell them to get bent or give them a few bucks. If one or both of my daughters is with me, I give a warning, and if they get inside ten feet, the P239 comes out.

I will not tolerate panhandlers (bums). Homeless people are different. If I see someone down on their luck and they appear to be trying to better themselves I will help. Especially if there are children involved.

If a bum reeks of alchohol or is agressive I can get a little rowdy.

I doubt I would shoot one though.

I was attacked by a homeless guy once at a stop lightin my car. Someone was in front of me, in back of me and on the side, I couldn't move- homeless comes up to me and asks me if I have an extra cigarette(when i used to smoke) and when I said no he got pissed and punched the crap out of me. As a result I usually give a wide berth when approached by any "out doorsman" and walk as fast as I can! This also brings up the issue with people who need to take medication and can't get it or refuse to take it, our prisons are full of them.

In New Haven they sometimes walk between the cars looking for money or whatnot. I put my windows up and don't make eye contact, they usualy go away.

You should carry pepper spray.

It is not really an Ohio thing.

You can get a nut anywhere.

Because of my size I am rarely approached by anyone, let alone opportunistic glad-handers.

However a couple of attractive gals I dated in the City were routinely accosted by homeless/panhandler/wackos...My suggestion, which proved most effective was to have them carry water pistols loaded with straight ammonia, served me well when as a child I had to brave free roaming dogs when riding my bike.

Most effective when aimed at the face.

My brother's BIL (former cop) works for Taser in AZ and does field training for the police and military. I could probably get you a deal if you were interested
