Blue Ridge Parkway

Ok, here are more pics from my vacation last week.
These were taken on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. Pic-1 is near Roanoke at a scenic overlook just after sunset. It's easy to see why these are called the Blue Ridge Mountains! Pic-2 & 3 is the Rakes Mill Pond Pic-4 is Mabry Mill Pic-5 is a lookout tower on Groundhog Mountain The Blue Ridge Parkway is fabulous. I used to leave in Galax, VA near the Parkway and have always loved that area. |
Just for fun

This pic was taken in Meadows of Dan, VA at a gas station where we filled up. I couldn't resist...

Didn't I see those pictures as jigsaw puzzles?:D
Wow. I gotta get there. |
You could make a calendar.

First one to make a joke about marrying a cousin or dental hygene -- I'll whomp 'em side the head with my likker jug.

Great pics Bill! I was actually in Virginia last week, near Richmond. The heat was insane! Beautiful state though, I have always loved the lush forests and trees in Virginia.

The in-laws live in Salem Just outside Roanoke... I have been on the BRP myself and it has got to be one of the prettiest roads I have been to. (Can't stand the no radar detector laws though!)
The Western and Southern parts of Va are nothing like the area around DC or the East coast. |
We take the top down and cruise the Blue Ridge Parkway every Oct. Great post! Makes me look forward even more to Oct.

the smokie mountains.....one of my favorite places.
Thanks for sharing the pics. ON some maps there is an old stage coach road that runs along the east edge of the great smokey mountain national park. it is dirt and curves around the hills. you can only go about 5 or 10 mph. we have done it a couple of times. always see some great wildlife. Once we came to a washout and had to back up a good ways til we could turn around. fun stuff. Tom W |
Very nice. I have covered quite a bit of the parkway myself; not a bad section as of yet. :)

That is absolutely beautiful. Such lovely pictures, so evocative...
It reminds me of Bill Bryson's book about the big hike he took:. "A Walk in the Woods - Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail" - a great read. |
you really like the new camera

Dang, nice pictures!
