Need some help - eBay purchase gone bad
Prior to bidding on a car on eBay, I contacted the seller and we agreed on a payment schedule and price for delivering the car. The seller agreed to deliver the car for $400, and agreed on a $250 depoist via PayPal with the balance due in cash upon delivery. With this agreement in place, I bid on the car.
I won the auction, and emailed him to confirm the delivery date before I sent the deposit. He indicated he needed to be paid up front because he had already delivered the car once and the guy did not buy it. I reminded him of our agreement, but he has stopped replying to my messages. My friend contacted him on my behalf, and the seller told my friend that he had already sold the car to someone else. At this point, I am guessing my options "slim" and "none". Does anyone have any ideas? |

Contact Safe Harbor at Ebay - tell them you side of the story.
In the mean time cancel your $250 payment with Pay Pal

I'd say your are right on..... only Slim is out of town this week.
Look at the positive side. You are out nothing. Unless it was a one of a kind car, another will be along soon. Frankly, I understand his position. I don't know why he agreed to it in the first place. Maybe it tells you something about the car, if he was afraid you would balk at closing the deal once you saw it. Or maybe it is a fine car and he just doesn't want the risk of you refusing delivery on a whim or you don't like it up close. Then he's gotta ship it back and chase you for the money! In the seller's position, I wouldn't ship anything unlesss paid in full before the car goes on the truck. You would be welcome to check it out here or have a ppi done. If you don't like it, your'e free to cancel the deal. That's fair IMO |

I agree. It appears you have no money on the table so it may be wise just to report it and move on.

Ebay Safe harbor is a waste of time in this case. If you've not lost any money directly,, just let it go.

Cancel the 250.00 and chalk it up to experience.

It doesn't sound like you are out any money? I'd forget about it and move on.
That seller is nuts I wouldn't agree to that.

If I was the seller, I wouldn't have agreed to it either. Regardless of that fact, he agreed to it and he was bound to it.
I left appropriate feedback and moved on. I guess when you fish near the bottom you are bound to pull up some scum. |

This maybe a blessing in disguise, how miffed would you be if you got the car and it was garbage? There are other Benzes in the sea my dear...and probably more better.
