anyone know a good air cooled VW forum?

Take out the idle jet and clean it. If your buggy has an electric idle jet, make sure it has power.

If the idle problem happened suddenly, it could be a blown fuse. If a fuse is blown, you need to find the source that causing it...usually a short somewhere in the wiring harness...

...happened once with my SB and a bad turn signal lead caused a short that blew a fuse on the same circuit shared by the idle solenoid.
