They spent 20 years on this and just now realized they were restocking with the wrong fish?! Wow. Somebody has roe on their face after THIS!

They can try undo the problem. Like SwampYankee said, just fish em out, there aren't that many. Take out the mistaken species and replace them with the correct species. although it may be counterproductive because you can't choose what you catch. Oops.
We did the same with Atractoscion Nobilis (White Seabass) here in CA. DFG spent a lot of money trying to repopulate with hatchery fish but they seem to be simply eaten by other fish since they were all stupider than normal and deformed. It appears the best system of recovery is to stop fishing them!
