ouch

Anyone who regularly rides/rode a motorcycle really fast, like 120 + will tell you there is a rush that puts the thought of wipeout pain a distant second. That bike went through its entire lifetime of vibration absorbtion in a few minutes. He'll do it again. Maybe he should try it on an electroforged Schwinn Varsity or Continental next time. In a situation like this, steel is better than carbon fiber. Wild ride though.

Sincerely,
Chicago Factory Trained Schwinn Mechanic.

Seeing as how the bike literally fell apart, I wondered for a moment, if it wasn't built in China.
I wouldn't want to take his place, that's for sure!

Yep -
That was my first thought.

I guess the main thought through all the R&D (and $$$ spent) was speed and not safety.

I’ve still got my (restored) 1969 campus green Deluxe Stingray (HE32625) 2-Speed Automatic. I got it for my 8th birthday.

Somebody find me a big hill !!!!

(and a helmet that will stay on my head)

“Chicago factory” – Wow!! I’m impressed. A REAL Schwinn mechanic.

two-speed kick-back

The two-speed kick-back coaster brake hub allowed the rider to pedal back lightly and switch gearing from a high to a lower speed. Kick back with steady pressure and it worked like a regular coaster brake. It was a marvel of engineering and I greatly enjoyed repairing them although one of the ony things that made them malfunction was hard grease or a shot bearing. I built a two speed kickback hub into a heavy duty wheel for a 20" Schwinn Twin tandem. We rode it through town (Homewood, Illinois) on errands and could get going pretty fast.

If that guy's helmet was fastened to his chin, his head would have likely been ripped off. A helmet that big would act like an anchor. I'm sure I will enjoy his next video very much. I had to laugh when he was squeezing the hand brake. Yeah, right.

Dontcha know it's the cool thing nowadays with the young crowd. I see lots of teenagers riding around or skating with their helmets unfastened, occasionally my stepson until I see it. Evidently, here in CA at least, it's their protest against "The Man" who makes them wear their helmets for safety's sake.

My argument is that stupid people can get hurt... Take off the "warning, do not use when sleeping" stickers off the hairdriers, get rid of any/all helmet laws, and see who has brains, and stay away from thoose on the street with their brains outside their skulls

Something like that. The helmet would have added more energy to the dudes head, and it didnt look like it woulda helped after the initial handelbars to face impact that took it off anyways...

I have similar feelings to yours; except when I'm paying the medical bills. Physics doesn't always recognize IQ or invincible teenage boys and girls.

Dude's headlong descent down the mountain is entirely up to him. He gets to do his own risk assessment.
