Sign my CC reciept over a notepad ? WTF ?

Okay, so I roll out tonight to a "luxury goods" store to buy the wife an anniversary gift (4 years of her putting up with me =) I find what I was looking for, the 19y/o behind the counter (dressed nicely, commensurate with the place) tells me the price. I give him my Discover card and he swipes it. The reciept comes out of the printer and he places a notepad (about 4"x6", company letterhead...) on the glass counter, puts the reciept on top of the notepad and gives me the pen.

I moved the notepad, signed the reciept, then picked up the pad and looked at it sideways, it had the indentations of many signatures on it...I made a commend to this end and the kid said "its becuase the pen will slip around on the glass" (I'll give him that credit, he probably meant that the reciept would slip on the glass, the pen is always in the hand of the person signing the reciept.

Am I the only one who thinks this is smarmy ? If I were looking for a way to copy someone's signature this would be the first thing I'd try.

anyone ? - John

I have two signatures - my real one, and my initials that I use on those stupid pads.

we have something like that at work.. ball point pens dont like to sign the heat inked paper which is then signed by the customer on the stainless counter.. so we have a special pad ( a static cling sticky with an add or something) on the spot..(my idea) works well and no one has to worry about stealing signatures

I never use credit cards.....If I have to order parts I'll use my wife's...F-'em if they won't take a check.

Besides,I really don't need anything that much to warrant it.

X2. When I pay cash, I ask if they still accept this means of payment.

If I wanted to copy your signature I would just keep the receipt you signed. In any case what the signature looks like really isn't super important. I believe you are a bit paranoid.

yea.. I just do a fancy J and scribble the rest... I must be famous...

all the signatures I see day after day... I can probably copy half of them since all the customer does is a sideways S and maybe a dot here and there...
