Tough day

Got a call from my wife this morning. She's a high school art teacher. Her best student wasn't at school and she was worried. His friends were looking for him. Got another call this afternoon. He'd committed suicide. My wife teaches in a pretty tough school and it's hard to find good students that make her career seem worthwhile. He was one. Serious artist, been studying with my wife for a number of years. Had a great chance at an art scholarship to a good school. No clue as to why he did it but our house will be in mourning.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Artists are a lot more sensitive and feeling people. Also pretty moody, usually. I think creative people are generally more prone to such things. I'll be thinking about her and about this boy's family. That is so hard.

I do feel for you.

There is nothing in life more difficult to bear than the loss of someone close, someone with promise and hope unfulfilled.
I have gone through this and no amount of rationalisation or emotional post-mortems will ameliorate the grief she must feel.
I can but offer my sympathy to her,you and particularly his family who must be going through hell right now.

Oh wow, that's awful, Kerry. My wife is a teacher and I can imagine how she'd feel. My heart goes out to you both.

Sorry to hear that. It seems creativity often goes hand in hand with mental anguish.

Kerry- I am very sorry to hear about this and if there is anything we can do please let us know. Is anyone going to start a memorial fund? Does the family need help with expenses?

Suicide is horrible. A few people I knew have done it and it is heart wrenching. Sorry for his family and your wifes loss.

What can I say... Wow that is really tough news. I am sure your wife is asking herself if there had any signs he was suicidal that she missed. Just give her lots of support and see her through it. I second Mistress -- if there is anything we can do, let us know.

That's terrible news, Kerry. Suicide is always the worst possible outcome and it leaves misery in its wake every time it occurs.

My thoughts are with you and your wife...........the quandry of "why" is always haunting.

Sorry to hear that. Your wife, and the relatives have my sympathy - tell her to hang in there...she has students that need her now more than ever.

Any anti-depression medicine involved?

Hard to imagine a high school student not having anything to live for.

Sorry for your wife's loss. Suicide seems a powerless way to live.

It is a perilous time for kids, high school.

One of my kids tried and fortunately we caught it and got them to the hospital in time.

A permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Depression runs in my family. It also tends to be as noted above more frequent in creative types.

Our prayers will be with you.
