Heathens!

Speak for yourself.

I was attending services at the Church of St Mattress until a few minutes ago and this evening, I may go to the casserole supper fellowship at the Church of What's Happnin' Now.

Heh. :)

Had to attend a Catholic funeral on Friday for my wife's student who committed suicide. It was an emotionally wrenching experience that I hope never to have to repeat again.
The priest's homily was direct and effective. He spoke about suicide and the fact that it does not exclude Catholics from heaven. I did not envy that man's job.

Did he address why he died?

He said that anyone who committed suicide was not in their right mind, hence could not be held responsible for sinning.
In addition, he stated that rather than hold any person responsible for Ryan's death, people should blame God for it. I thought this was a very useful and creative tactic for dealing with the obvious problem of how people could continue to believe in a good God in the face of such tragedy.

A sabbath Sunday . . . isn't that just part of that relatively new religious cult?

So now the suicidee is a child of a lessor god?

So why should we worship such a god?

Hatterasguy 09-30-2007 06:48 PM

I havn't been to chruch in at least 10 years.

vwbuge 09-30-2007 07:11 PM

Should we really be discussing church here? A wise man once told me "if you want to be friends with someone, don't discuss religion or politics"

To each his own.

Hatterasguy 09-30-2007 07:23 PM

We discuss politics enough.

You assume that God's purpose is somehow to make life pleasant for humans. That in return for treating us nicely, people worship God.

God's purposes are His own.
