Princess Diana's Death

Coroner: Hard to Say if Di Was Pregnant
LONDON, Wed Oct 03, 11:55 AM

The coroner conducting the inquest into the death of Princess Diana said Wednesday that the inquiry is unlikely to reach a scientific conclusion on whether she was pregnant at the time she died — a possibility that is key to the allegation she was murdered.

Lord Justice Scott Baker on his second day of laying out the background of the death of the princess and her companion Dodi Fayed on Aug. 31, 1997, said Diana had not given any indication to her doctor, family, friends or associates that she was pregnant.

The jury, made up of six women and five men, has been told to expect up to six months of wide-ranging testimony before they make up their minds on whether it was an accident or murder.

Fayed's father, Mohammed al Fayed, has alleged that Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II's husband, directed British secret service agents in a conspiracy to murder the couple — in part because she was carrying Fayed's child.

Baker told jurors that no pregnancy tests were conducted on the princess' body, although two British pathologists concluded there were no visible signs of a pregnancy. However, at an early stage of a pregnancy there might be no visible signs, he added.

"It is likely pregnancy is not a matter that can be proved one way or the other in scientific terms," Baker said.

Baker also spoke of al Fayed's claims that the princess' body was illegally embalmed in Paris to cover up the pregnancy.

Baker noted that none of Diana's relatives authorized the embalming, as one should have done, but it was approved by a Paris police official and British officials.

Baker also discussed al Fayed's claim that his son had purchased an engagement ring, saying that there is conflicting evidence about the purchase and the intention behind it. He quoted al Fayed's spokesman, Michael Cole, as once saying: "What the ring meant we shall probably never know."

Two separate reports by British and French authorities have said the crash likely happened because the couple's driver, Henri Paul, who also died in the crash, was drunk and lost control of the car.

Blood samples said to be taken from Paul hours after he died, and again on Sept. 4, showed blood alcohol levels about double the legal limit, Baker said.

However, no one inside the Ritz believed he was intoxicated and CCTV camera footage showed Paul bending over and displaying no difficulty in keeping steady.

Baker said the samples also showed no presence of a drug that Paul's physician had prescribed to alleviate fears Paul had of becoming dependent on alcohol.

Baker said there are some inconsistencies in the samples that may indicate they had become contaminated.

There is little doubt in my mind that Diana and Dodi were murdered. The conspiracy was a joint effort by the Queen, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles and the French authorities. Treachery and murder has run deep in that family for centuries and the blue bloods made sure that blood wouldn't be tainted.

Last night on "House, M.D." there were a series of great lines during the scene when he was thinning out the prospective candidates of future team members:

"Who likes the designated hitter rule?"

"Who knows what a designated hitter is?"

"Who believes Oswald acted alone?"

Here's a thought, WHO CARES! I never understood Diana's 'Rock Star' status. I mean she was pretty -- for an Upper Class English girl, but she had nothing between her ears. Just listen to any of the interviews the continually run and you can understand Charles wanting to be rid of her.

Al Fayed again

Al Fayed despises the Royal monarchy because they refuse to give him British citizenship. That is undisputed.

Antics like making and pursuing claims of this nature are likely to do little to further endear him to the Queen.

He is not, as a rich Egyptian, and never will be, part of the British upper class. Enjoying the trappings of it should be enough for him.

Yeah, but it wasn't a very good one. It was a bottom of the line S280, and it was a badly rebuilt theft recovery that the L' Etoile limousine company hastily put into service as a last minute decoy car.

That is a predictable sentiment for individuals who believe the world ceases to exist outside the borders of the continental United States.

My wife really loved Di and really hates charles because of his cheating.

We watched the Queen a few weeks back. Interesting portrait of the royal family. The king comes out as the worst person in it....if that is his title, I suppose it is duke or something since she is the monarch.

I think my favorite part was when the Queen drove the old standard tranny diesel Range rover out into the boonies by herself, and it quit in the middle of a rocky stream. She got out and looked under it and called some of the men responsible for taking car of things and said, it has dropped a driveshaft. The man said, are you sure? She said of course, I helped build them during the war.....I know what a drive shaft is.

I liked that movie, too. I've been in love with Helen Mirren since her 1960's role in "Midsummer's Night Dream".
