Hi all W123 owners, and other MB-Fans..

If you happen to have a W123, why don't you tell us a bit bout your ride. It'd be great if you could post pictures as well.

These cars are one of my favorite cars in the world. Most people laugh when I say I'd take a 280E/300D (mint) over a Lancer EVOVII or Subaru WRX...

I'm starting college soon as a freshman and hopefully I can save up enough cash to get myself a W123.. be it 300D Turbo, 280E or 240D.

One question, why is it that I don't see soo many 280E's in the USA? Is it because they are very fuel inefficient? How's its fuel consumption like?

I never heard of 300D til I started my search into ebay.com

In Indonesia... those who drive W123, drive the 280E.. with 18" Brabus rims, etc.. one was selling for about US$14,000!!
'84 280E Auto, 18" Brabus rims, Full Leather interior (really nice and classy), etc. etc.

If I could get a 300D, I'd love to have it in Diamond Blue, probably repaint it... because last time my dad had an '82 280E... which was sold away for a W124 230E from '92. Yeah, sure now that i'm the one taking care of the W124, I love it very much (Especially since it's also finished in Diamond Blue), but I wish they hadn't sold that 280E...
it was sold cuz it started givin out minor bearing problems..... but nothing but that.. bummer..

Anyway, get the posts going..

My brother believes the W123 ought to some in white - brilliant white. I think colours are a matter of opinion.

His W123 is kept in almost mint condition and it sure beats having to drive any other car. The feel and road handling is as good as it first rolled off the showroom.

Thats the mileage one gets for proper care and maintanence.

I'm also a fan of the W123. Here's some food for thought on that subject.

I'm not positive, but I think that the reason you don't see many 280E W123s in the U.S. is because they either were not sold here or were sold only for a very limited time. Most of the 280Es that you find here are gray market cars.

300D Turbo, thanks for that link!
I downloaded a bunch of those high res pics. I made wallpapers for my PC!
I've been waiting to put a pic of what I really like (it's hard to find nice pics of size 1280x1024) These huge ones easily downsize to 1280x1024.. the result. really sharp pic!!
Thanks a lot.

Do you have any of the W124?

I guess a 300D is not bad at all, I don't need speed anyway. When I do have the money, I want a 500E..

But no way in hell im goin to sell the W123 if I do get one.

so the '85 is the latest model right?
or is it '86?

How much would I be lookin to pay for an '85 300D-T? $4K?
I saw an '85 300TD-T for $5.5K

The 300D turbo was manufactured from 1982 to 1985. Only slight changes took place within those few years - most from 82-83. Here's some pictures I scanned from a dealership calendar, let me know how you like them.

Nice scans!
You seem to have a good scanner, I could never scan pics that well.
If only you have bigger versions of the 300SD's and the W123's..
Do you think you could send some of the raw pics of size 1280x1024 or bigger to my mailbox?

I'd appreciate it.

BTW, the 280CE is a beauty!
Too bad it's yellow there..

Go to this website for some really high res scans of American versions of the W123.

http://www.w123.net/

I love the gold W123, it's now my wallpaper!

My parents used to own a 1984 300D. At the time I didn't like the car cause it looked old, but it was indestructable!!!
After that they bought a W124 250D. Which I liked at first, but not anymore (It looks old).

But now for the funny part: I'm looking for a second hand car that is indestructable, easy to maintain, from which I can learn the basics of car mechanics and a classic sports cruiser.

I'm desperately looking for a W123 280 CE !!!

But before I get any comments on the picture I include (which I adapted a bit so it looks like the car I would like) : I'm not looking for an ALL original MB. I know there are purists that disagree with me, but I like the classic line of the benz (the chrome) with more modern looking sporty alloys and interior. (de gustibus et coloribus ...)

Well my 300D is blue.
I got it about 1 1/2 years ago.
The odometer was broken so I don't know how many miles it actually has.
I love my W123. It's a great car.

The car that I really want right now (realistically) is a W123 280E/CE... then maybe the diesels.. but any W123 would do.. even if it was a Type-R beating 200D with about 50hp.. then maybe i can forget about giving chicks a ride..

*Speaking of 200D i wish I had a 500E, I'd badge it as a 200D - THey do have W124 200D's right?*

There's a 300CD on E-Bay that is located in Kingston, NH.. that's about an hour away from Boston.. I wish I had the money

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=598914874

Im not much a purist.. I would hate to see a W123 lowered all the way to the ground w/ loud exhaust... euww..

In fact my dad's ex 280E had 16" BBS old style rims..
I would definitely dress up the W123 when I get one

I've had crazy ideas on how I would improve the W123's interior w/o affecting its classic looks..., etc...
if only I had the money...
