Are there any anti-submarine/torpedo experts here willing to break their top secret oath to fill us in??

My knowledge goes about as far as Tom Clancy movies.

Proven to be not such a bad source for techie stuff.

Yeah, back in speculation school, they told us never to over estimate the capability's of Chinese technologys, so 'parked it by a boulder' sounds about right to me.

I do know they blow up below the keel, and break the ships back.

I'd be pretty worried about these SOB's too, AFAIK the French have sold them to just about everyone.

I'll bet they parked that thing next to some iron boulder and waited for the parade to pass by... but I'm just an unranked armature analyst with a phony technical school certification as a speculator.

X2, I doubt that sub could do more then 5 knots and remain undetected. The battle group moves at what 30? So you can't chase it, you have to get ahead shut everything down and let them run over you.

Do you think that the French have sold them anything that the USN hasn't thoroughly studied from concept through manufacture to deployment?

Remember that German firms assisted Saddam with design & construction of bunkers. Want to guess how the USAF designed munitions for "bunker-busting"?

Or in the case of the French, "a Vichyious cycle".

So they are going to have to pry the washing machine out of your cold dead fingers eh?.. :D You'd better go check the country of origin on your washing machine before the election... and assembled in the USA is considered an ominous sign by the way.

Here's a link to an interesting article written by Norman Polmar in 2006. It deals with the US history of nuclear submarines and the internal struggle over sub types for the US Navy

Succinct and interesting. It even sounds plausible.

Back in my speculation school they told us the Russians would never be able to listen to our secure transmission............and then they caught the Walker spy family...and learned that we have been unsecure for years.

Deceit from within is probably the single greatest vulnerability in a western democracy. People on the inside have a hard time believing anybody would betray the trust, even though that's the primary way in which secrets get out.

I suspect the sub commander saw the battle group, inched himself in front of it at 3-4 knots then sat and waited for the fast moving battle group to "run over" him. Then surfaced and laughed. Pretty much what we did to the Russians back in the cold war.

Still it was a damn good move!

Nothing could be further from the truth.
