What spark plugs to run in 1990 volvo 740 Turbo
I want to repalce the plugs in my 1990 Volvo 740 Turbo wagon. The car came with Motorcraft spark plugs...well I know there is better. I have always ran the bosch supers in the Volvo and they have done great. My mechainc was trying to talk me into a set of platium plus four. Well they are twice the price and I have read various reviews on them. I'm tempted to stick with the norm...but maybe I shouldn't be so stuck to what I know. This same mechanic said that he thought even the NGK plugs were better then my bosch supers. Seems kind of weird to run a japanese plug in a bosch system. Anyway tell me what you think. Thanks.

I still miss my '91 740 but I can't for the life of me remember what plugs went in there.
But I'd trust what IPD says about it though. And they say Bosch. http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-700/Engine/Filters-&-Tune-Up/Spark-Plugs/p-70-189-251-1124/ |
I was always very happy with my Bosch Platinum Plus's (single electrode). I don't know what the huge advantage is with the multiple electrodes... Kinda smells of snake oil to me but who knows...

I too...but they wanted to sell me NGK |
Your mechanic may well be following an undisclosed, personal, and profit-based agenda, as to the spark plugs, when he speaks to you, based on your remarks about what he said, in the original post.

Every time I have run Bosch platinums in anything the car has had some sort of drivability problem, hard starting hesitation random missfire, you name it. Motorcraft also makes a good plug in my opinion. |
