MASCOUTAH, Ill. - Two hugs equals two days of detention for 13-year-old Megan Coulter.

The eighth-grader was punished for violating a school policy banning public displays of affection when she hugged two friends Friday.

“I feel it is crazy,” said Megan, who was to serve her second detention Tuesday after classes at Mascoutah Middle School.

Obviously she wasn't in an Italian neighborhood.

What's the world coming to?!

...but public displays of aggression are okay...that's why kids bring guns to school!

We as a culture let the pendulum swing way too far!!!

What a flirtacious tease! First hugs, what's next? Hand holding?

It really is a sad state of affairs.

That kid was warned that the behavior was not allowed, yet continued to engage in this behavior in sight of the school principal. I believe that she was goading him.

She deserves more than three days detention, if she was goading him. Much more. There are ways to get unfair rules changed, but telling the kid that this is one of them will surely make her into one of the finest of citizens.

It is painful to realize that the kids with those silly ideas that we all laughed at in Civics class are now in charge!

I don't know, people hug too much nowadays. I remember when people didn't hug hello.
