Great story.

I built a P-38 model airplane as a 6th grader, and hung it from my bedroom ceiling with fishing line.

I stared at it every night while going to sleep.

hey, I built a rubber band powered Gullows balsa "stick and tissue" P-38 as "therapy" during law school . . . after completion, I flew it off the Golden Gate Bridge.

tool box

I think the b-29 burned when the guy's toolbox slid around and knocked something loose. A $1.29 bungie or $.04 worth of rope might have saved it, however, things do happen for a reason.

An aux generator broke its mounts in the rear and ignited the gas when the fuel supply line pulled off.

Yes, the article makes reference to it about 11 paragraphs in; interesting story, you should read it.

I think it was 3 to4 lightnings and some B-17s or B-24s. They were buired about 100ft beneathe ice. They drilled or doug a hole down and created a cavrn. Dissassembled the P-38 and brought them up in pieces. I think one was restored in KY and is flying now.

Yep and the same salvage company managed to get it out. There was a special about it on cable a few weeks ago.
