Unhappy Outside temperature indicator

Hello everyone, my 1990 190e 2.6 ran really hot the other day(no engine damage thank goodness) and now my outside temperature readout has gone through the roof. I cranked the car up the other day and the readout was 138 degrees Fahrenheight and it climbs as the car warms up. Do any of you know how to adjust the readout so it will return to normal? Can it even BE adjusted? Do I need to replace it or can it be fixed. I sure would appreciate some feedback. Thanks
