Unhappy 'Pakistan used US billions to fight India, not Qaeda

http://in.news.yahoo.com/071224/32/6othh.html

Pakistan has used funds provided by the United States to cover costs in the campaign against terrorism to help purchase weapons systems directed against India, the New York Times has reported.

I have seen worst wastes of foreign aid.

You guys better figure that thing out with Pakistan, because if you go to war with them India's position as a global business player will sink faster than the Titanic, and won't come back for a loooooong time.

I think Turkey used funds and military equipment from NATO to fight with Greece over the island of Cyprus, which both lay claim to...

That is not a good thing either

Some of the Greeks and Turks REALLY hate each other. A Gree American guy I knew, a long time ago, told me his grandfather had a whole row of human front teeth that were embedded in his forehead.

He got it from headbutting a Turkish guy.

Look at the $2B that went to God knows what in Haiti. Probably guns, drugs, women, mansons, Mercedes, and boats.

Not really, India has plenty of reserves to sustain and Pakistan capitulates too easily going by history. Three wars have been fought, each time Pakistan lost and lost bad. The financial impact on India was negligible to say the least. However an Indo China conflict would ruin both the nations. OTOH, the worry is nations like Pakistan and others milking away in name of friendship and fighting terrorism, that could prove very costly for US in the long run.

If India goes to war with Pakistan all the global companies that have operations in India are going to start to look elsewhere. They cannot afford to have pointless regional conflicts shut their companies down. Last time the tension with Pakistan built up, this happend. When you are running the back room of a company you do not want to get a nervious phone call from the CEO and board of directors wondering whats going one.

Since its gonna last 5 days, they will be back, greed is everything after all. Point is that the money that Pakistan gave to Al Qaeda will not only be used against India but also against US. Who do you think is sheltering and harboring the Al Qaeda along with Laden and Zawari. Its US's best friend of course.

We don't have the whole story, I'm sure the money was given to them for something.

Why don't we just look at it as a bribe. We give you 5 bil and call it an effort to fight terrorism and you do things for us once in a while. Lets be real. All this "aid" is basically a bribe with a nice packaging and a red bow. If you think most of the "aid" goes to what the stated cause is, you are delusional. It is a bribe so that you look the other way when I do something or so you do something for me. However, I can't call it that outwardly so I will give it a nice title and everybody's happy. I don't call that woman a "housewife". I call her a "domestic engineer". Fancy title but says nothing. Why the surprise?

Let's hear your take on how this "bribe" helped our "bottom line" as you are always defending. I'd much rather have used that 5 billion inside our borders. Much like Iraq- my $ is used to blow up a bridge, then my $ is used to rebuild the same bridge. Is that how you like your $ spent? In your answer please remember that you can only spend a buck once- if you spend it on X then you cannot spend it on Y. Tell us why it's best spent on a "bribe" to Pakistan and not fixing our roads and bridges or something else inside our borders.

Once in a while, you might want them to do things for you. You want a friendly ear in that area. Giving them some F16s makes General Dynamics a little money, keeps a few people employed, etc, etc. Sometimes, you have someone you need the ISI to have a chat with. Question for you. Who was khalid sheikh mohammed and where was he captured and by whom?

We have the road tax for that. However, in WI, the great Gov Doyle decided to make it his personal slush fund. So, what difference does it make? Either way they piss it away.,

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/para/ksm.htm

Although he apparently did not attract attention for extreme Islamist beliefs or activities while in the United States, KSM plunged into the anti-Soviet Afghan jihad soon after graduating from college. Visiting Pakistan for the first time in early 1987, he traveled to Peshawar, where his brother Zahid introduced him to the famous Afghan mujahid Abdul Rasul Sayyaf, head of the Hizbul-Ittihad El-Islami (Islamic Union Party). Sayyaf became KSM’s mentor and provided KSM with military training at Sayyaf’s Sada camp. KSM claims he then fought the Soviets and remained at the front for three months before being summoned to perform administrative duties for Abdullah Azzam. KSM next took a job working for an electronics firm that catered to the communications needs of Afghan groups, where he learned about drills used to excavate caves in Afghanistan.
