85' 300TD wagon... worth $9850? Hmmmm.

Just browsing ebay and ran across this 85' wagon. Looks good initially, but I see lots of rust - which definitely makes me think $10K is WAY to MUCH for this car. Sure, its got lots of receipts and enough totalled up to buy a BRAND NEW S-Class! :) I also noticed something very disturbing on one of those receipts. It said "check for water damage up to radio - drivetrain has water, etc - remove and replace switches, disinfect interior"!

Mucho Loco, Capron

That one would be in showroom condition - only in Atlantis.

The "Biodiesel" sticker in the left rear window instantly added $9500 to the car's value, can't you see that?

Look at how clean the odometer numbers are compared to the others, it's been rolled back. Otherwise it has been driven about 9.3K miles per year then suddenly dropped to 5.5K miles per year after 2003. If they kept up at least 8K miles per year then it would have over 200k.

If the guy is really expecting to get $9800 for the thing, it was EXTREMELY stupid to show the flood damage receipts. That pretty much erases about 90% of it's value. If he was shady enough to inflate the price and roll back the odometer, he should have burned those receipts out of existence.

If you're interested in a 300TD at THAT price, contact me . . . I love mine, but I'm not THAT attached to it! And mine has no flood damage!

When they say "verified clean history" they ain't kidding. From the look of that invoice you posted the car has been in a bathtub.

I guess you could call that seller - honestly stupid

PaulC 11-28-2007 10:05 AM

The PO's spent all that money but couldn't bother to look after the paint? Run.

POS 11-28-2007 10:36 AM

Has all the warning signs. Pass.

To quote Louis Anderson "He must be on crack". Look at that one and then the one on LA Craigslist for $3K more. The one in LA might be worth it, but this one is a turd.

Whats up with the close up photos of all the receipts? Does that prove the PO paid too much for service?

86560SEL 11-28-2007 05:32 PM

I know... its so funny.

Whoever serviced this car made enough to go on TWO round world trips! :D

Ouch, front sway bar rusted off too.. but that was probably the only thing that rusted.

cough

Heh, he has a receipt fro S&G Imports; a shop I frequent for parts.

(They carry Diesel Purge)

Jim B. 11-28-2007 06:06 PM

The receipts show that it's been to Satish Tummala's shop a few times too, before the car was in the flood. Satish has the knowledge for these. He is amazing, he lives and breathes the Mercedes Benz cars.
