$430k would buy you a mid size mansion around here, complete with several acres of fully fenced land and gated card access to your driveway. Jeeze.

"Average basic homes" in a mid to upper scale neighborhood sell for about $130-180k around here depending on the size of the house. Very high end brand new homes in the developments (these are HUGE houses) can be had for $220-240k with you as the very first owner.

Crazyness. I think I will stay here. Michigan is a much more beautiful state anyways. *Flame suit is on*
I'm sure it's all relative though, at least.....it's not a direct comparison. Wages for the same job in both places are probably much different too.

Granted, you take that higher income from Hatt's region and go buy a nice mansion near you, I guess....but still.

New York City, that should say it all. Cost of living is higher, but wages are as well so it all works out.

That was my first thought too.

Here's another thing to consider. Make sure when you place the foundation, your surveyor figures in the stairs or front porch when calculating the location of the footing/foundation to comply with the front, side and rear yard setback requirements.

At our local zoning board, we had a builder make an honest mistake when calculating the front yard setback. Nice guy and I'm sure his was an honest mistake. But he was six feet closer to the state hiway right of way than our ordinance allowed, and we made him move the house.
(He had a couple of clear February days and his surveyor couldn't get to him, so he went ahead and measured it himself and goofed up. He measured from the edge of blacktop, not edge of ROW)

Lift the house, move it back six feet, relocate the foundation and set the house back down. Couldn't have been cheap.

My dad had his house in Montauk done by them, and it's really nice.
Manufactured in Port Jervis.
I believe it can withstand 150 mph sustained winds.
If you go with them, please let me know.

Oh I don't think we will make that mistake. One of our partners will be a builder who has been doing it for 30+ years and knows the local zoning better than the city. Almost every house that my parents have owened they have built, including the one I am sitting in. I think its number 10.
