Madonna in rock hall of fame?

Madonna will be inducted into the "Rock Hall of Fame".
Maybe I missed something but when did she ever do anything but pop music?
What contribution to rock music did she make?

I think she probably has gotten some rocks off in her day.

I imagine they look at the whole enchilada when making this decision. The debate should be - admit her on the basis of her music ("No" would be my answer), or admit her on the basis of her contribution to culture ("Yes" would be my answer). She had a significant impact in her day, and I think her longevity ought to count for something.

I would agree with you if it was the "cultural hall of fame" or even the "popular music hall of fame". The rub is that it's the "rock" hall of fame.

Would you characterize her music as rock music?

I would but more importantly, should the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Absolutely, because their past inductees includes Miles Davis, Herb Alpert, The O'Jays, Prince, and The Jackson Five. Those guys/groups aren't exactly rock either, but they're in.

I don't know what kind of contribution you need to make. They are just musicians after all.
I think she deserves it. She's been around a long time and made some really great music. I might not agree with her personal lifestyle but her music is pretty good.

I though fame was probably one of the key requirements for that. She's certainly famous. She's a master of self-promotion.

Her music was all pop but she made the rock industry corporations rich and they are the ones who count. It's all green to them. I don't own a thing that she recorded and doubt I ever will.

For showmanship and sheer elan,yes.

Athough she can't sing worth a damn she became mighty popular with her combination of virginal innocence morphed into slut-savant.

Although none of these personas was original with her she must be considered simply by public acclaim alone.

Madonna absolutely belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I think the scope of the Hall of broad enough to include pop stars like her. For better or worse, she is one of the most influential music celebrities we've ever seen. I don't like her music, but I have a lot of respect for her.
