How often, do you see a "Shooting Star"?

I seem to see them all the time in this area in North Carolina where I live. I even see them when it's partly, or slightly cloudy outside. I was just wondering how often anyone else sees them.

I always watch for the one on the first "Jaws" movie when it drops in the distance over the sea, behind the boat. I don't know for sure if that was a part of the script, or dumb luck, on the night they were shooting the scene.

In an area where there is not too much city light if you look up for a few minutes you can usually see one or two. I don't think I have ever seen one on an overcast night.

I once saw a huge one which just streaked across the sky at what appeared to be a very low level. I was diving at night about 2 in the morning at the time. It streaked horizontally out front of the car. It was just amazing, but it only lasted a fraction of a second or so.

Yes, the reason I brought it up, was because I just saw one. Every time I see one, which is easily a couple times a week, I wonder how many other people happened to be looking up and spot the same one at the same time.

On a clear night I see them at least once a night if I am out and look at the sky for a while. Mostly during the warmer months though. :D ;)
