Anyone with an iPod Nano Video?
 

I have been thinking about getting one sometime. I've been debating on either a Nano Video, or a refurbished 30GB video iPod...

Happened to be at the Apple store last night biding time while the "women" in the family were clothes shopping.

Screen is slightly smaller than the one on the larger iPod, but still viewable. The one I looked at was priced at $199. I think it was a 8GB model. I believe that's in line with the price of the non-video Nano (that I got my kid a couple of years ago).

They haven't been around long enough to get any feedback on long term reliability. I would suspect, battery issues could possibly be an issue, characteristic of Apple's other products in prvious years...

Get an iPhone....

I would get the iPod video over the iPod Nano Video. The hard drive size is what kills the nanos for me... If it had more storage, I would have one.



Now with that being said, I also have an iPhone, which serves as my nano....

I was looking at the Nano for training purposes, I have been wanting to get into shape for a while, and the Nano has some features to do so....

It really depends on how much memory you need, which depends on what you want to use it for, but for reliability I'd go with the nano. It's the hard drive that usually fails but the nano doesn't have one (it has Flash memory). Unless you're watching freakin movies on the thing, 8GB is plenty for most people, although I will admit my older pre-video 20GB has been full for the last several years. Anyways, you can keep all you want in the iTunes library and just load what you need on the iPod.

Early iPod batteries had problems with premature failure, modern ones last a long long time, and they're replaceable at any rate.

I love the iPhone, but I'm waiting for the second generation.

I believe the Nanos all use static memory whereas the videos have hard disks in them. Static memory will stand up better under rough use than a HD would. I have a 30GB Video, but don't carry it with me when running or doing stufflike that.

That's correct - no moving parts to break with nano. The upside to the hard drive iPods though is that you can upload in much higher resolution than MP3 - and there's a real difference between MP3 and original source material like CD. MP3 gives me a headache after awhile.

They each have their place.

I don't really plan on watching many movies, but I do have a few programs that can get the file sizes down to a decent size. I was thinking the 8GB Nano would be best size for me. I am sure the 16GB models will come out after I buy one :rolleyes:. I like the Touches, but they are so new, and cost way too much...

Lighter, smaller, faster, better, etc. etc. . . . . the story of computers.

Ah, but nature is in balance with bloated operating system software and applications that can't take advantage of multiple processors.

Indeed it is....pretty sad....however, eventually the CPU manufacturers are really going to hit a wall speed-wise....they already have. But at that point its up to the software developers to speed things up and take advantage of PC's with 4+ cores. :D

I have one of the older 60GB video ipods. I bought a video converter package from a company named 99bytes ( I think) that converts most commercial DVD's to ipod MP4 format. A 90-120 minute movie will take 700mb - 1GB storage. You can move them on and off the ipod from itunes so you don't need to keep them all on the ipod all the time. My kids use it while I drive them to soccer games.
