Ain't you glad you drive a diesel?

It had better be a pre 1985 diesel....If you also have a pacemaker...well, don't elude arrest or speed..

Not really... all that means is that they will have to shoot real bullets at the car if their car killer ray doesn't stop you.

I can see it now... put these things on all the State Trooper cars and let them go to town.

In court:

You: "But I wasn't speeding, your honor"

Judge:" The officer would not have zapped your car if you were doing the speed limit"

You: " But your honor..."

Judge:" I have heard enough, you are guilty and that is it."

Now you are stuck with a fine and having to get a new car.

Imagine the Insurance companies throwing fits over this kind of claim.

Oh and what it the cop misses and hits your car by mistake?

Time to get busy... wrap your car's electronics in lead sheets and chicken wire then ground the fencing. This is how you can harden your computers on the cheap.

They will probably write the law allowing them to use it with a caveat that the authorities are not responsible for collateral damage.

How about this one... they kill a car and the driver looses control and since the 1- computer stability control is not working, 2- the Anti-lock brakes don't work, 3- the airbags will not deploy, and 4- in a convertible the roll bars won't pop out the driver flips his car and dies!

or better yet, plows into a bunch of kids crossing the street.

I can't wait for these things to hit the streets!

I doubt it. People sue the police all the time over excessive force, so I don't see how this is different.

If you were walking past a fight and the cops nailed you with a tasser just because you can damn well sue them and win. Same thing if your car.

This is a great way to end high speed chases. Insted of using stop sticks, the PIT menuver, or shooting out the tires. Wait until the car is on a clear stretch of highway and shut it down.

I'd love to use it on all the people passing my house that are doing over the speed limit when the stop sign is only 100ft. away...and those that swerve TOWARDS me as I'm cutting my grass, etc.

Oh, and to be completely honest, how much work would one have to do to a pre 86 MB Diesel to outrun the police? Well...then again, how long was the OJ Simpson "low-speed" chase?

this brings up a product from years ago.it was called a gamefinder.it was a hand held infrared gun sort of thing.it's purpose was to help find downed game(pheasants, quail, partridge etc)they were out for about a month or two then they just sort of disappeared from existence.govnment must not have wanted the average joe to have that capability.

The Tazer is a gun that causes complience under threat of pain.

Now, if it is used on you ...why cannot this also be banned because it is a 'torture ' device and the recipient is subject to cruel and unusual punishment.

Very similar words ('No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment') appear in Article Five of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (A/RES/217, December 10, 1948). The right, under a different formulation ('No one shall be subjected to [...] inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.') is found in Article Three of the European Convention on Human Rights (1950). The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (1982) also contains this fundamental right in section 12 and it is to be found again in Article Four (quoting the European Convention verbatim) of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (2000).

NY/RI etc has outlawed lethal injections on the same grounds...how come it's okay to zap someone with 50kv and it's not ruled as same?

Test case someone ?

True. If they're Taser-worthy, they're bullet-worthy.

Collateral damage can come from a variety of sources. A friend's Mom was minding her own business sitting at a traffic light when a flipping SUV hit her from behind. See story below. She's the "woman in the third vehicle" mentioned.

http://www.newsobserver.com/news/story/852610.html

We think the guy was fatally injured from gunshot wounds while fleeing from the police and his vehicle went out of control when he died behind the wheel a few minutes later as he was tearing through the downtown area. The police aren't sharing any info at this time...

She's shaken but not hurt BTW...
