Need help, no heat in '96 pontiac trans-port

Ok, my cousin has a '96 trans port van, and the heater doesn't blow hot air, usually.

It wont get up to operating temperature, I have so far replaced the leaking/whining water pump, and the t-stat. The t-stat was an absolute SOB to do...

No improvenent, and as an added bonus, the blower stopped opperating. The fuse in the dash is fine... Dont know where the motor is...

I've had it for 4 days, I'm stumped and they need a car

Any words of wisdom?
Tks alot
~Nate

I think the problem is with it not getting up to opperating temperature, unless I keep it in 2nd or 3rd gear (keeping the rpms up). And still it only gets to like 150 or so. It's a 195 degree t-stat.

l'm freekin stumped... It's going to a mechanic tomorrow, I'll put a new blower in it if the thing gets up to opperating temp.

I'm hella sick too, ugh

Hmm. that is strange. I was to say either t-stat or water pump as well. Is it possible that it has "air" in the system? Not sure about these vans, but on my old 1994 Chevrolet Lumina with the 3.1L had a sticker under the hood saying that they had a special coolant fill procedure to keep air out of the system, which if improperly filled, will cause no heat, etc.

I have no clue about the blower motor... does it have the optional rear air/heat as well? If so, does that blower work and is it blowing out cold air?

I assume they are in Wisconsin as well and from what I have been seeing, heating is a MUST up there right now with those bone biting temperatures.

Nate, my parents had a 1994 Trans Sport with the 3.1. If this is the 3.1 engine, I'm pretty sure that it has a bleed screw designed to release air bubbles from the cooling system. An air bubble will prevent coolant from properly circulating through the heater core. Do you have the owners manual? If so, see if it has further info on the bleed screw.

Just as I thought... as mentioned I am pretty sure that my old 1994 Lumina car with the 3.1L had that as well. I had to have a water pump installed on it @ 187K, but I had it done @ my mechanics.

rear air is functional, and blowing cold air on the baby seat...

They're using my other cousins car (my old escort) as the baby buggie, for now... Not exactly working for them.

I opened the bleeders and theres no air comming out of them anymore. The water pump was leaking and making horrible noises, and the t-stat was an absolute SOB to do.

The t-stat wasnt stuck open, or facing the wrong direction or anything... Ugh

well, I slammed the hood and the blower started to work again, briefly. I wiggled the wires by the blower, and nothing.

There are also bubbles in the coolant, sometimes. othertimes no.

The rear air is blowing cold, and the heat vents were warm sometimes.

I dunno what else to do at this point, other then give it back and say I'm stumped.

Suggestions?
~Nate
