So, has anyone been to the circus lately?

I was heading to work today...and got caught by a train. Normally it bothers me, especially with such a slow moving train, but today it didn't bother me. I got out of my car with a huge smile on my face and looked at the animals as they went by (saw a few in the windows) and waved to some of the people on the train. I think I've got to go now.

I've been banned from the Circus, I made the clowns nervous and they started to cry.

I figured that, and enjoy reading the responses. You just don't know what pearls of wisdom will pop up.

Actually, Ringling Bros. head quarters is right here in Northern Virginia. I think it's in Arlington.

I like the Big Apple Circus. they're more theatrical. I'm hoping to go to see Cirque de Soliel one of these days. I think they are VERY theatrical.

we have been told that the RB&BB circus was actually founded right here in Sarasota, Fl. We actually have three major circuses here now.

That also explains why there are so many clowns walking around in town....

Venice used to be the winter quarters for the RBB&B circus, until the rail road was in such bad shape, that even with the train going at a walking pace, it just wasn't safe anymore. Nobody wanted to pony up the money for repairs, so the circus said, "see ya" and relocated to Tampa. The clown college is still in Sarasota - although I have yet to hear of any politicians admitting to it being their former alma mater.
It used to be a source of pride and entertainment for the Venetians, when it came time for the train to arrive - now all they have where the quarters used to be, is a skate park and a trapeze school.

If I remember correctly, you guys have the Ringling Museum right there on the Tamiami Tr.

I went to the RB&BB a few years back. They've gone all high tech by punctuating all the acts with hard driving music and a rock and roll caliber light show in order to satisfy todays younger "plugged in" generation.

Yes, the Ringling Museum is on Tamiami Trail (US41), right by the Airport (SRQ). On the grounds is John Ringlings house (Ca d'Zan), and some grand Banyan trees. The midieval fair used to be held there as well - a very nice venue, complete with a wonderful waterfront view.
Hidden somewhere in Sarasota is (or used to be; not sure if it is still there) a neighborhood that was mostly train boxcars serving as housing. They have a name for it, but it escapes me now.
