AT&T Go Phone -RIP OFF-

After my last at&t bill coming out to $230 i decided to end the contract early to keep myself from going over on my minutes. I kept seeing ads on tv about go phone.

They claim $20/month gets you unlimited calls (mobile to mobile) and unlimited text. Well seeing as i could just buy the sim card and use it on my current phone i decided to give it a try, and my my what a terrible service this is.

Here is how its broken down.

You get charged $1 per day for everytime you use your phone whether it be a text or a call.

Non-mobile to mobile calls get charged 10¢ per minute.

I use my cell phone everyday, so in order to keep it running ill have to put in $30 for the month+10¢ per minute for all the people i call on non-mobile to mobile networks.

Thats terrible!! Id rather have garbage receiption with a Metro-pcs and pay $35/month for TRUE unlimited calls and text.

Does anyone have any other recommendations for pay-as-u-go/ non-contract plans?

Get Sprint. Their customer service sucks, it's not pay-as-you-go, but the coverage is good and the pricing is pretty reasonable. I've used Sprint for the last 5-6 years and have been very happy with it. I rarely get out of their service area and my plan includes free roaming everywhere. My work phone is AT&T and I think THEIR serive stinks! I just wish Apple would cut a deal with Sprint to sell the I Phone.

Sprint isn't perfect, but I've been a customer for over 10 years.

Have you tried hanging up?

Seriously, it works great for me. No mobile phone. Home phone and work phone, it's all I need. Of all the folks I know with mobile phones, they all suck. Static and dropped calls. Unavailable for no known reason. No coverage in remote areas. Maybe someday the technology will improve and service will equal that of a landline and be available everywhere, until then, count me out.

Cricket, if you have it in your area. I have unlimited talk text and pic messaging, and unlimited 411 calls, 100 minutes per month of free roaming, free long distance, and I think i pay maybe between $50-$60 per month. Can call both mobile and land lines, it makes no difference.

I have an AT&T go phone. I pay $.25 per minute. I bought the minimum of 400 minutes. The time is good for one year.

Now, how often do I really need to speak to somebody so urgently that I must do it on a cell phone? Maybe if the car breaks down. Maybe if I'm in the car and need to let someone know that I'll be late. Maybe I can't find an address.

But, other than these infrequent events, I don't need it.

It's been well worth the $100. per year for the convenience.

I really get a kick out of the geniuses who walk around the entire day with the phone glued to their ear. WTF is that important?

I'm in sales and I don't use mine that much. I have Verizon 1,000 minutes a month, free nights and weekends, roaming (I don't know $$$ never roam), texting which I do maybe a dozen times a month. Costs me about $50 a month. I could pay an extra $10-$20 a month to get internet access but I don't need that. I don't get important enough emails that they cannot wait until I can get to my desktop.

I don't get how people run up these $200 phone bills, put the damn things down! You could get a nice car for that!

I think last month I used 500 minutes, 300-400 were probably for work. I do must of my calls in the office on the land line, the cell is mostly quick, out of the office calls.

They talk about pointless stuff.

"Hi Mike hows it going?"

"Did you see the Gaints last night"

30 minutes later...

"Yeah the Yankess are awsome"

I also see them in class, insted of listening to the professor who they are paying $1k, they text eachother about pointless crap. So and so broke up with so and so, the party was cool, this class sux's, ect.

I used to know a girl who could not afford a car, so she walked, but she could afford $200-$300 a month phone bills, with the latest and greatest phones. She had a new phone everytime I saw here.

I have never actualy paid for a cell phone, I have had my Razr for 2 years now. After the three year contract is up I will get another phone for free when I renew.

I listen to the DB's on the ferry to CT. Unfortunately, I don't have a choice.

"Hey, Eddie.........can you hear me..........can you hear me..........I'm on the ferry.........yes...........the ferry...........on the way to CT..........across the Long Island Sound............I should be over there in 90 minutes...........well............the ferry is leaving in a few minutes............yes............it's a car ferry............I bring my car with me.............yes, it does save a lot of time..............so.............yeah.............OK...........well, I'll call you when I get over to the other side................

.............so f'n stupid..........I can't stand it.

We have a T-Mobile family plan. Four phones, unlimited text, mobile-to-mobile, nights and weekends and 1000 peak minutes. $130/month. I also have a pay-as-you-go phone from Virgin mobile. No contract. Costs me about $10 a month if I don't talk on it, and not that much more when I do. Only use it at racetrack and a few other places that T-Mobile doesn't have service. Contract with T-Mobile expired years ago. I don't get phones from them. I just buy what I want off the web and pay full price. That way, if I get mad at the company, I can just tell them where to go and switch to another service, no charge. I think one of the biggest rip-odds going is a contract that lasts longer than the warranty on the phone. Some of the plastic phones I have seen stand no chance of outlasting the contract.
