Question Help!! Freind locked out of her Volvo wagon, last key gone!

Any ideas?

One of my neighobors and friend, locked her '96 Volvo wagon, But misplaced or lost the last key.

She could call AAA for the lockout service, but she doesn't know the key code, just the radio code.

Anyone have ideas on what to do to get a key or two made? It's a smaller town, there is no Volvo dealer for 50 miles around to help. I'd sure enjoy helping point her in the right direction

Any ideas of where to go or who to call?

Thanks!

I'd try the local locksmith and hope for the best, and then call Volvo USA and explain the situation/get their advice. Then advise her to get three keys made, keep one for her, and tell her NOT TO LOSE THE OTHERS!

Call the nearest Volvo dealer and ask if they can determine the keycode based on the VIN. If so, your neighbor will probably have to demonstrate ownership to get the code.

I would call the nearest Volvo dealer and ask what she needs to send to prove ownership of the car. Then ask if they can give the settings needed to her local competent locksmith to cut the key...then have spares made. My wife and I have keys to eachothers cars, with a third set at home.

50 miles is not far, if she calls the dealer they can priority mail a key to her for tomorrow morning.

X2

Or better yet 2-3 keys so this doesn't happen again.

Solved now. Here is what happened & my side trip. Trade Subie for Volvo?

Thanks guys, here is what I did.

Got AAA on the line, and while waiting, she FOUND the key. It was in the bathroom.

But I was sick of this crap, so I decided to finish it once and for all.

I took the car to a local locksmith, and he said it needed a laser cut key (1996 Volvo 960 wagon) and they didn't have the machine, nobody in this small town can afford them. $hit.

So I called up the nearest Volvo dealer, (in Sacramento, and they said they could do it today, they had a machine.)

I took the wagon down to the dealer, they cut TWO, that's right, TWO keys @$32 each.

This broad is frankly kinda ditzy, I don't think she could find her a$$ with two hands and a flashlight.

Then I went and had lunch in my favorite Peruvain restaurant and went to teh Cadillac junkyard in Rancho Cordova, and got a set of Cadillac horns for the 560SEC.

They are nice and loud, the W126 horns are ridiculous, they sound gay or like for a VW beetle. Absurd for a car like that.

I had thought about an air horn, compressor and all that, but that might cause the adverse car to jump in the air and split in half.

I will try and install them to work WITH the dual note "Town and Country" gay Mercedes W126 horns, but to be safe I think I will add in a 15 amp fuse over the stock 5, as they draw down a lot of current when you'd use them.

This was the same lady who offered to swap me straight across this Volvo for the '95 Subaru Outback I bought for the snow here.I had a chance to give the Volvo a real good, 150 mile test drive.

I like the Volvo, the 2.9 turbo makes it a good RWD road car, but I am going to keep the Subie. It was fantastic in snow the other day, and I know it well, has books and records. Each have identical miles, 121k, and run good, but the Volvo has no records on it, and the inside looks like a hotel room where 12 junkies, each with a different addiction, had lived for a week. It was nasty!!

Turned out good though.

Sher and her boyfriend are so happy they are taking me to dinner at the Lake Wildwood Country Club tomorrow night!!!

Nice!!!!!!

thanks for your suggestions - every one of them was spot on!!!

Glad to hear it worked out ok.

Nothing sucks more than being locked out of your car and looking in the window to see your keys hanging there in the ignition.

(Not too common with the MBs I guess, as they’re needed to lock the driver’s door.)

Around here. This one really sucks:

Exactly where, in N.C. are you..? I can come over and un-lock it in seconds with my lock-out tools, if you are within a reasonable distance. Just let me know where.

It's easy.....

1. Shut off car and leave keys in console.

2. Exit drivers seat and shut door.

3. Open rear door and retrieve briefcase.

4. Reach in and push down drivers door lock knob.

5. Shut rear door.

6. Look for spare key.

If you do that you deserve it! MB makes it pretty hard but someone will figure it out!

Jim- your a good neighbor and do you mind if I use "she couldn't find her a** with two hands and a flashlight," that's really funny.
