Tata - Worlds cheapest car set to launch

Tata Group in India is planning to announce a new car priced at $2,500.
This is the same company that is bidding to buy Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford.

$2,500? That's about the base price of a new 1972 Ford Maverick. I have a funny feeling that the Maverick would seem like a S600 compared to this creation. I'm also trying to imagine formulating an ad campaign in the USA for a company called Tata.

Its junk, thats all. However its built stronger than most cars in its class, Tata used heavy gauge steel and it can stand crashes far better than the Chinese car tested. Otherwise a crude pathetic offering in every sense, they do make a swanky looking 140bhp diesel SUV but even that has its share of reliability issues.

If you mean Tata, yes, by law all vehicles sold in India have to comply with Euro-III, Tata already sells its vehicles in South Africa, Australia and UK so they have to comply with international standards.

Thanks. That's interesting, I (wrongly) figured they'd save a lot by using old engine tech. Have you seen any pics of one yet? Compact or micro? (I've always been fascinated by microcars for some reason.)

And they plan to offer a CVT version as well. Obviously might get that price up a bit from $2500 but still quite an option to have available.

Pretty funky looking! I know a lot of people think micros are death traps, but it's not really different than riding a motorcycle.

I'd drive an Austin Mini, BMW Isetta, Honda N360, Subaru 360, Messerschmitt, etc. around if I had the funds and a place to keep 'em.
