Boy I got whacked on that one--Blockbuster (which I never joined until my favorite local store went 'on-line' last year:rolleyes:) has some sort of reprieve on late fees, ie: You pay $3-$4 for a movie and keep it for a week. Don't bring it back on time, it's like $.50 every coupla days and they send you a note. I usually keep them for two weeks or so and pay when I go rent new ones and the late fees are like adding one movie. More often than not, they just waive the fee. Big deal.

HOWEVER, I started taking my four year old to the library last summer. We discovered they also rented DVD's for $1 and began renting DVDs there. In late June, we checked out six. I forgot about them and went to my home in VA for two weeks. Long story short, I discovered the library DVDs after they had been out a month and immediately went to the library, turned in the old ones and checked out three new ones. When the clerk rang me up, my bill was.......$180.00: $1 per day, per video late fee!

My fault but, damn.

I'm definately not what you would call an early adopter. Look at the cars I have- that's all I have.

My local library has all the DVDs I need- and I pay taxes. I'm really not interested in the latest crap that comes out of "hollywood" - it leaves me cold. I'm very happy with 1990's technology, too as far as DVDs.

That's a big YMMV.

Rick

Nothing wrong with that at all, but I don't think that means the universal advice should be "don't bother with 1080p." Some people are interested in the "latest crap," and might want to get a BluRay player and a collection of said "latest crap" ... in which case, it makes sense to get 1080p. If they have the budget to do it, why not?

Of course, nothing wrong with that! YMMV. Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

My point is that the difference between 780p and 1080p is relatively small. Is it worth a small premium? Sure. Will your investment in 1080p be future-proof? Don't bet on it.

I have no idea how the local libraries are anywhere else ( they're probably better than here) but in Orange County (Orlando) you can search on line for DVDs, reserve them, and then they deliver them to your door in a few days. Is that like Netflixx or what? They have even the most obscure titles as well..
