Funny, yesterday on PBS there was a show about the brain and what areas work when people are faced with different kinds of decisions. The show started out with the trolley scenario.
Later on, one group of researchers felt that it wasn't a good enough example because people don't have to actually make a choice. They set up an experiment with a real orphanage in Kenya, and people had to choose which kids get real meals donated. Screens would show 2 kids getting say, 5 meals each or one kid getting 9. Then, same setup, people had to take food away. |
