Headphones...

I am getting ready to buy a new pair of the big DJ style Headphones...

I need some input...

I have use the Bose Quiet Comfort, and they sound AMAZING! But they are super expensive, and I was wondering what you guys use...

I am now considering the Bose, Sennheiser, and Shure offerings...

Help me out!

Thanks, Justin.

I have the Bose QC2's that I bought for listening to MP3 or watching movies when I'm flying. I prefer the around-the-ear style phones and love them. I bought some cheap JVC noise cancelling ones and didn't really think they cancelled much noise so I bought the Bose. That's about the only time I ever wear headphones, though. Sadly I don't have much time to just sit around an listen to tunes. Damn kids.

I'm far from an audiophile, in fact the noise cancelling aspect was the main factor for the purchase, and I know some folks think the Bose are overpriced but I think they sound great.

I really like my Sennheisers. They're expensive, but worth the price.

Santa Claus brought the wife some Bose sound-canceling head phones. I find the sound to be kind of muddy, but the sound-canceling thing is freaky. I like wearing them when I'm riding on the tractor. You can still hear the machine, but it's much quieter and you can hear the iPod without turning the volume way up.

I had a set of Shure 3-series in-ear earbuds and didn't like them at all. They were very uncomfortable, despite the dozen or so different ear fit pieces you get with them. The sound was fine, but nothing that made me say "wow, I'm glad I just spent $200 on these headphones". I returned them and still have the ear buds that came with the iPod.

open aural, you will not have as much isolation as a closed-back design.

Sennheiser HD-25 (NOT the sp) are an industry standard. I have a set of HD280s' right now - besides the cracked headband (properly duct-taped) and bulkiness, they sound amazing. If anything breaks on the hd25, every part is user-replaceable. Just be careful - they reach an insane spl (130db)

whatever you do, stay away from stanton and sony. (ESP. if your getting them on ebay)

I hate BOSE. Sennheiser and Grado will sound 10x better. Boses' motto should be "Better sound through Marketing" as all their "Breakthrough" new designs are all cover in books dating back over 50 years. Might aswell be throwing your money away.

Head phones are the best, but I have some Bose ear phones, the noise-cancelling ones. They're much better for listening to the I Pod out in public.

I hear Bose criticized a lot by afficianados, but I think they sound fine. If you're into hair-splitting about audio, you probably should be listening to something other than an I Pod anyhow.

The pilot bought some phones that do the sound canceling thing and it is magical how effective it is. WVO, how does that work?

SONY MDR-V6 is used in most studios as well as many DJs use it, its the industry standard. I replaced my Senheissers with them and not only do the SONY sounds better, it outlasted the more expensive Senheissers.

Sennheiser

Sennheiser are hands down the best. You actually get for what you pay for, unlike Bose.

Sennheiser has been innovating headphone technology since 1945, before Sony was even founded. There is a reason they are considered the "Mercedes-Benz" of headphones by audiophiles everywhere.

V6? in a club?

nope.

they lack a proper swivel; making it uncomfortable for 1-ear monitoring. Flip your tv to ESPN. All you'll see is people using the HD25 - hell most airlines use them also. Which sennheiser model did you own?
