no rust on the midwest scale

"This car is clean, I would rate it a 9 out of 10, nice shiny paint, clean interior!"

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300195583309

I'll rot in hell if I say my 300D is anything more than a 7 out of 10 and it's tons better than this car.

I wonder what forcedinduction thinks of running a Webasto furnace on WVO

Hmm. Midwest car. No underside pics. Visible rust on the top side. Not good signs.

My 240D is an original Iowa car (won't see that in a sale ad) and has less rust showing than the car in the ebay ad. Closer inspection however reveals an inner fender and a rear quarter panel rusted clean through. It's been repainted and seems to have been heavily undercoated at the same time without bothering to fix the rust, so I really don't know how bad it is underneath. I'm just going to drive it until it falls apart. Hopefully I won't be going very fast when that happens.

Sixto,

Thanks for posting on that car. It's in my neck of the woods and I may give the dealer a call on it. With the economic destruction of Michigan, there are some real bargains popping up. I doubt I'll buy this car, but it interest me, just the same.

If you go to look at it, gently pull up the bottom corners of the rear window seal on the outside. They love to rust through in that spot. Other rust spots:
where the front subframe mounts connect to the body, in the engine bay near the firewall, wheel arches, inside rear lip of trunk lid, under trunk lid seal, around taillights, read quarterpanels below bumper, chrome bumper center sections, rear lower "A" arms (rust and crack-sudden neagtive camber!). Rust would likely be the number one problem with that car given its location. Bet those headlights are not cheap.

No rust, just a crooked hood, trunk, driver side door.
