Check out my dads new truck...

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=231635433&dealer_id=73790&car_year=2007&model=F150PICKUP&num_records=&systime=&make2=&start_year=2007&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&engine=6+Cylinder&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=both&distance=100&marketZipError=false&search_lang=en&make=FORD&color=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&drive=2+wheel+drive&default_sort=priceDESC&max_mileage=15000&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceDESC&address=06460&advanced=y&end_year=2008&doors=Two+Door&transmission=Automatic&max_price=&cardist=47

He was going to buy a new one, but this way he is saving $3k-$4k and for all purposes its new. The PO was a women, bought on April 16, 2007. She didn't like it and traded it in, in the fall. The dealer had it priced to high and just came to their senses.

The color sold him, he loves "Forest Green" as Ford calls it, that's the color of his currant 1994 F150. Its pretty much just a newer version of his F150, except his is old one is an XLT, this is just an XL, so the new one has crank windows. That would drive me up the wall, but he doesn't mind.

How are the new Fords? I know nothing about trucks.

I used to say that, until he pointed out that my MB sucks down more parts in one year then his truck has since new.

He just did the radiator, hoses, T stat, and water pump for like $250. All that cost me $800 on the SDL.

Well my uncle has a loaded 2005 F150 that has been really good since he got it. Its a work truck and is shown no mercy.

The new ones are all plastic up front, he nailed a tree in VT when he first got it. Like $6k in damage. I was looking at it and the only thing metal up front are the fenders and hood. Everything is plastic from the radiator forward. He said the impact was nice an soft as a result. Guess crumple zones do work!

My 04 was a nice truck. Put dual exhaust on it (of course) and that was about it. Sold it at 54k never doing anything besides oil changes. I'd get another one if I didn't love my F350.

Every FORD I've owned has been a money sapping turd. Especially the 2001 Explorer Sport Trak.

Everyone I know who owns or has owned an F-150 has been very happy with it and claim they are very reliable. I'm sure your Dad will be happy. Why not a 4x4?

I'd get a new ford. My van has had a lot of parts replaced but it's a '90. It has also been wrecked like a billion times by my mom and sister. I only wish the parts cost the same for the mercedes as they do for the ford. My calipers were 11 bucks vs 90 each at the local store.

Big, inefficient gass guzzling pick up trucks only sell well in USA, Mexico and Saudi Arabia.

Most of them that I see driving around here are unladen and with just one person in them, usually gabbing on a cell phone because of course whatever they are talking about in there is FAR more important than driving.

Like big SUVs, I think they should only be sold to people intending to put them to their FULL use ALL the time. Others should simply rent one, it would be cheaper and more efficient

You should see the US car dealers out here. They have mostly, nothing but pickup trucks on their lots when you drive by them. You kind of get the impression they don't really care about trying to sell cars anymore.
