Fake rolex watch Idea.
What do you guys think about this?
Years ago I talked to a lawyer over dinner at a Club Med down in Mexico and he told me this: When he was in Hong Kong on business, he bought a $hitload (about 30) of very sincere looking fake Rolex watches, really cheap. He said the only way you could tell the difference between the real and fake, was that on one, the second hand was a sweep second hand, and the other, there was a second hand that ticked one second at a time. Most people would never know the difference. I certainly wouldn't. When he got back to Chicago, he had a jeweler gut all the fake Rolexes, and put bulletproof Timex watch guts in them. They looked so real you could not tell the difference, and lasted forever. Kind of the idea of putting a Chevy motor and tranny into a Rolls Royce, like that... They made wonderful gifts, his busniness clients loved them, they were all delighted. I can't afford a real Rolex, so I would probably take one, for fun.... __________________ Although Jeremy Clarkson said, that people at parties who wore Rolex watches, at parties, were known to always seen checking the time far more often, and ostentatiously, than people who didn't. hahahahha

It has the same nostalgia as a kit car.

What is the lure of counterfeit designer goods? Is it the vanity of giving the appearance of "wealth and taste" when the practice is precisely the opposite?

As soon as I see a woman driving her Pack O' Kidsmobile" while wearing a Hermes scarf, I will.

I just got back from Wal Mart and did my shopping while wearing my real Rolex. Funny this post appeared as I felt sort of weird and out of place there as I wasn't wearing stretch pants and didn't have at least four screaming kids hanging off me. At least I didn't have to park my Benz there as I'm out of town (in Alabama) and driving a underpowered Toyota. "It's a brand new one" she said as she handed me the keys. I was so thrilled, I cried.

Got to New York and get on down to Canal St. in Chinatown. Why stop at a Rolex. They have Jaegger LeCoultre, Pateks, Vacherons, Ulysse Nardins, anything you want. I once saw a Patek Sky Moon for $50.00. The amazing thing was that it was mechanical and all or at least most of the complications worked. That (the genuine article) is a $1,000,000.00 plus wrist watch.

It worked with the lawyer, so why not now? You just have to find a market. I doubt potential buyers could give a crap about quality or are watch aficionados -- they just want the name.

Depends on how you’re trying to push them off.
If you give them away and state clearly that they are fakes. Fine. If you give them to people you know may not know the difference, and act like they are real. Shame on you. That’s kind of like a nice big “diamond” ring for the wife, and some time later (on her own) she finds out it’s CZ. You’d be an AH there for sure, and should be treated as one. Same with the fake watch.

If I were to wear a fake to impress people it wouldn't be a poseur Rolex.
This is the part of the thread that people say: My Rolex, yada yada to let everyone know they have a Rolex. |

There are plenty of watches styled like Rolexes made by real manufacturers that you can get for under 100 bucks that I don't see why you'd bother.
Unless you just like to pretend you have a Rolex

I have a cheap-a$$ Seiko, a few Russian Poljots and a nifty look'n Fossil. Someone gave me a Breitling (not a big buck top-o-the liner. But right now, I'm not really even sure where it is.) Nick? How 'bout you?

I thought Breitling was standard issue for all pilots, second only to a strap on.

I’ve also discovered that when I enter the aircraft with my Seiko, Fossil or Poljot saying the same time as the co-pilot’s Breitling. After the flight - When I get out, it gives me the same time as the co-pilot’s Breitling. Go figure….
